Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Nurse band 7 in Critical Care at The Princes Royal Hospital, Telford. This is a secondment/fixed term opportunity to cover maternity.
The post holder will function as an expert clinical practitioner within their designated clinical area to deliver direct patient care while managing, leading, coordinating and overseeing nursing practice. The Clinical Band 7 Nurse in Charge has responsibility for the management of Critical Care during their rostered shift.
Responsibilities
To assess care needs, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care and set standards. Ensure efficient and effective utilisation of all resources required to deliver optimum quality care to the patient group. Act as a professional role model by ensuring high standards of nursing care during your span of duty through direct support and leadership of clinical practice.
Work flexibly to meet the needs of the service, covering 365 days and nights per year and the ability to work cross-site if required. Liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team to facilitate a collaborative approach to patient care. Support the Matron, Centre and Division in ensuring the unit is compliant with National Intensive Care standards to provide safe and effective care.
Be responsible for the ward/department, effectively leading, motivating, supervising and directing staff to ensure time and resources are managed through effective teamwork. Ensure staff have a clear understanding of their duties and responsibilities and the standards of performance and conduct expected throughout the 24-hour period. Deputise for the Ward Manager and the Band 7 team as necessary.
Work with the Ward Manager and the Band 7 team to ensure an appropriate managerial and professional infrastructure is in place to support service delivery and functional requirements within the ward/department in line with corporate objectives. Be responsible for agreed aspects of clinical management, providing the Ward Manager and Matron with assurances. Development of others is a fundamental role of a clinical band 7 nurse in charge.
Lead and participate in educational programmes within critical care and the wider trust.
The Trust offers career prospects with opportunities for professional development. The critical care units are across both Shrewsbury and Telford sites, with a short 20-minute journey between sites. At The Princes Royal Hospital, Telford, there are predominately medical patients, head and neck and maternity; at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, predominantly surgical and medical patients. Both teams work closely with the critical care doctors, nurses and MDT.
