Responsibilities
1. Interview patients and/or patient representatives to obtain required information for registration in the hospital information system, maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity of the database.
2. Coordinate and communicate registration, admission, and pre-admission activities with relevant hospital departments to support accurate, safe, and effective patient care.
3. Maintain organized files and records related to orders, payer authorizations, bookings, and schedules.
4. Contact patients, employers, insurers, and representatives to obtain insurance information, verify benefits, and pre-certify plans to maximize hospital reimbursement.
5. Verify benefits using insurance systems, obtain referrals and authorizations, and document complete information in the system.
6. Stay informed of departmental policies to ensure maximum reimbursement.
7. Attend departmental meetings as required.
8. Ensure timely and appropriate placement of patients, processing admissions, discharges, and transfers.
9. Explain and process payments, including estimates, co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles.
10. Follow procedures for securing payment information and issuing receipts.
11. Provide information on healthcare proxies, Medicare notices, financial issues, and refer to financial counselors when needed.
12. Deliver excellent service to patients, families, visitors, volunteers, and staff.
13. Check in and transcribe orders in the HIS system.
14. Schedule patient visits as needed.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
* Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English at a high school level.
* Typing speed of at least 25 WPM.
* Proficiency in computer skills relevant to the role.
* Successful completion of a Medical Terminology course within the last five years or passing a challenge exam.
* Ability to work independently and handle pressure.
Purpose of Position
To accurately obtain and enter patient information, verify payer details, and provide customer-focused service to ensure expedient care and correct billing.
Schedule Details
Summer Temp, 24 hours/week, rotating evenings (3p-11p), with occasional coverage until 12a, including weekends and holidays.
