As an Operational Support Grade, you will look after the day‑to‑day running of a busy prison, working in a close‑knit team to carry out a range of support services – everything from patrol and gate duties, to managing deliveries, supervising visitors, and monitoring phone calls and CCTV. You will work shifts and nights to keep things running.
The salary ranges from £29,432 to £35,483 depending on location, for a 37‑hour working week inclusive of a 20% unsocial hours working allowance.

Hours and Working Pattern
You will work an average of 37 hours per week, including nights, evenings, weekends, and bank/public holidays, on a rolling shift pattern. Detailed shift times can be discussed at interview.
Responsibilities
* Gate/portal duties: secure entry and exit, conduct searches, manage keys and radios.
* Control room: operate the radio system, monitor CCTV, report suspicious activity.
* Visits: book visits, process visitors, escort if required.
* Censors/correspondence: monitor mail, log and report contraband, preserve evidence.
* Night duties: ensure cell doors are locked and prisoners are accounted for.
* Reception: support reception tasks, photograph prisoners, collate property documentation, search and x‑ray incoming property, verify sealed containers.
* Prisoner supervision: supervise as required, manage clothing/property exchange, assist free‑flow movement.
* Food delivery: deliver and collect food, use electric tug vehicle as needed.
* Driving duties: transport prisoners and escorts, collect mail from sorting office.
* Phone calls: monitor PIN system, log PIN phone requests, handle legal numbers.
* Procedures and protocol: understand and comply with national and local policies, respond to emergency procedures and incidents.
Qualifications & Competencies
You must be confident in spoken English, or Welsh when required in Wales, and able to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence.
