Mental Health Officer: AWI Team Waverley Court Based within the Department of Health and Social Care AWI MHO Team these posts present an exciting opportunity to gain experience and further professional development as a full-time Mental Health Officer within the City of Edinburgh MHO Service. Qualification as a Mental Health Officer following the successful completion of a SSSC accredited post qualifying Mental Health Award programme is essential. As an MHO within the AWI MHO Service, you will use your skills and knowledge in addressing the impact of impaired capacity to make welfare and/or financial decisions for the citizens of Edinburgh. This will include attendance at Adult Support and Protection case conferences where capacity to make decisions is a potential contributing factor to either the adult being less able to protect themselves from harm or is directly contributing to harm. You will support health and social work colleagues to address issues of capacity contributing to delay in discharge from hospital including taking forward applications for guardianship where required. Completion of MHO reports in relation to private applications for welfare guardianships You should demonstrate a strong commitment to person centred interventions, strong rights-based practice supporting autonomy and the enactment of the adults 'will and preferences' while balancing this with the right to be protected from harm within an appropriate framework of individual and public protection. In addition to responsibilities under the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 you will contribute to the City of Edinburgh MHO rota for responding to psychiatric emergencies. As an MHO you will have a significant role in supporting colleagues within the partnership in their understanding of the impact of significant mental ill health and incapacity with regard decision making, however caused including appropriate application of legislation to help support citizens, promote wellbeing and achieve positive outcomes. This will include providing both informal advice and guidance but also the opportunity to be involved in awareness raising and training. As a member of one of the core MHO Teams in the partnership, you will have a key role in supporting the training of future MHOs undertaking the Mental Health Award Programme and in supporting our satellite MHO workforce through mentoring. This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required.
