Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and dynamic pharmacist at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. This is a cross-site role, based at the Queen Elizabeth site in Woolwich.

The successful candidate will join our Pharmacy team and will lead on all aspects of Formulary across the Trust,managing the introduction of new drugs and associated medicines management pathways, guidelines and protocols. Key roles will be contribution to the South East London Formulary, being an integral member and secretary of the Trust Medicines Management Committee and membership of the South East London Integrated Medicines Optimisation Committee and Joint Formulary Committee. You will work closely with colleagues within and outside of the Pharmacy Department and primary care and secondary care colleagues in South East London.

Main duties of the job

At Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust we are committed to providing excellent patient care and supporting our staff. As a key member of the Medication Safety & Governance team, the post holder will be expected to provide leadership within this and the wider pharmacy team and contribute to developing pharmacy services.

You will have excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills; you will be able to manage your own workload, motivate and manage others, work as part of a team, and engage at a high level with key stakeholders within the Division.

2. To be responsible for the co-ordination, preparation and management of independent reviews of drugs for discussion at relevant trust committees, South East London Integrated Medicines Optimisation Committee (SEL IMOC) and Joint Formulary Committee (JFC). This includes being an active voting member and trust representative at these meetings.

3. To act as a pharmacy contact for medicines management issues across the primary and secondary care interface.

4. To support the review of patient pathways in conjunction with clinical leads across South East London

5. To promote effective prescribing in the trust following formulary and national guidance.

6. To assist the relevant trust committees in assessing and evaluating the implementation and impact of NICE guidance within the trust.

7. To deputise for the Principal Pharmacist Medication Safety & Governance as relevant meetings and committees

Qualifications & Training


Essential

* B. Pharm / M. Pharm / BSc (Pharmacy) or equivalent.
* Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
* Postgraduate Diploma in either Clinical Pharmacy or General Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent).
* Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice.


Desirable

* Other postgraduate qualifications relevant to pharmacy practice, such as management or education & training qualifications.
* Independent Prescriber


Experience


Essential

* Substantial post registration experience in hospital clinical pharmacy or equivalent relevant area of practice.
* Demonstrable experience in supervising others.
* Demonstrable experience in the delivery of formal education and training at postgraduate level.
* Demonstrable experience of managing staff/ teams.
* Demonstrable experience of co-ordinating and leading on clinical audit.
* Demonstrable experience of protocol/ guideline development.


Desirable

* Experience of disciplinary matters and be able to impart results from them to staff in an appropriate and considered manner


Knowledge & Skills


Essential

* Knowledge of relevant local and national standards and regulations associated with the provision of education and training.
* Ability to work on own initiative and effectively as part of a team both within pharmacy and a multidisciplinary environment
* Ability to prioritise and plan work effectively alone and for a team including the ability to delegate appropriately.
* Ability to think strategically.
* Applies sound professional judgement to legal and ethical issues.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate complex information effectively using clear written and spoken English and overcome barriers to understanding
* Ability to provide highly complex information on Pharmacy Services issues and impart knowledge to all levels of healthcare professionals (up to and including senior consultants/professor/executive director level).
* Ability to work positively and calmly under pressure.
* Proficient in all Microsoft Office software with proven computer literacy and IT skills
* Demonstrated accurate numeric skills
