Job Summary

We’re looking for a freelance Outreach Coordinator to support our growing programme of activities to reach children through local Primary and Secondary schools. Working closely with our Fundraising & Partnerships Manager, the role would coordinate the smooth delivery of our outreach activity.


Job Description

Contract: Freelance, 8 hours per week for an initial one year contract, excluding July & August.

Working with schools

* Engage and coordinate with partner schools on outreach events.
* Work with partner schools to coordinate promotion for the free children's festival.
* Coordinate author visits at the partner schools, alongside the CLF programme team. This includes managing the programme timetable, briefing authors, liaising with schools, providing detailed information to the schools (PowerPoints, Information Packs, etc.), coordinating feedback, and potentially attending the schools' events. There will be three author visits across the initial contract period.

Project promotion and support

* Coordinate with schools in and around Cambridgeshire to promote the event dates for the annual Schools Day, regular Library Events, and the annual Children's Festival.
* Produce materials such as Teacher Information Packs to support the promotion of the events.
* Gather and manage evaluation data to inform future plans and strategy for the Outreach activity.
* Support the programme team with author liaison and school logistics.
* Work with the Fundraising and Partnerships Manager to coordinate CLF's activity for the National Year of Reading, which is happening throughout 2026.

Children's Choice Awards

* To act as the main contact for the Children's Choice Awards 2026 with the three participating Partner Schools.
* Ensure the smooth delivery of the project, working with schools, and managing deadlines.
* Coordinate the delivery of the Children's Choice Awards inclusion at the Children's Festival in April.

Children's Festival support

* Support the Festival Administrator with outreach activity for the free Children's Festival in April
* Support with idea generation and delivery of the children's activity at the festival, e.g. a children's zone, storytelling space, etc.
* Communicate with schools to provide festival tickets and promotion materials.


Job Requirements

Essential skills and experience

* Experience or knowledge of the education sector, ideally primary or secondary.
* Experience of working with children or young people, and an understanding of safeguarding considerations.
* Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
* Strong communication skills and a personable approach.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative team.

Desirable skills and experience

* Experience coordinating or promoting events, ideally in the arts, charity, or festival sector.
* Experience of working within defined budgets.
* An interest in literature, ideally children's literature.
