Leveraging experience to map the intersections where people and tech deliver results, this team supports businesses undergoing their own digitisation projects and those who seek disentanglement from the manual and inefficient processes in the delivery of legal services. Experienced at delivering large and complex legal services, we are experts in the delivery of data-intensive mandates.

Legal

In Legal, we help shape how the firm delivers legal matters to clients. We have longstanding experience in thinking differently about law, and we are at the forefront of making legal services more efficient – particularly at scale.

We have a deep knowledge across a broad range of sectors, and a wealth of experience in delivering large and complex mandates. We are specialists in contract management, document review, managed legal services (including volume claims and remediation), and due diligence.

Working collaboratively with colleagues from across the firm, we use our expertise in law, process design and technology to deliver solutions for our clients. Underpinned by our legal project management capability, we organise our collective effort as efficiently and seamlessly as possible.

This ensures consistent delivery throughout and enables our clients to achieve efficiencies across their operations.

Legal Technology

In Legal Technology, we deploy the firm’s established technology efficiently and reliably across a range of client matters and projects.

We combine our expertise in document automation, custom development, eDiscovery and data analytics – to work collaboratively across the firm on disputes, transactions and projects.

Advisory

In Advisory, we bring deep expertise in legal operations and emerging technologies, working across any sector, alongside our teams or directly with clients.

The Role

Legal Analysts are part of our legal team, working closely with highly experienced senior Disputes lawyers on the delivery of client work within the Disputes practice group of Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer’s Digital Legal Delivery practice group.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of disputes law, data, and technology. Legal Analysts in this team are not only delivering high-quality legal work but are actively contributing to the evolution of how disputes are delivered through digital, data-led and AI-enabled approaches.

The role will be based in our Belfast office however you will regularly be working as part of a global Digital Legal Delivery team.

Opportunities can arise from time to time for Legal Analysts to be selected to go on business trips and secondments, usually to our London office.

Our network of Committees in Belfast includes Social, Charity, Arts and Business, Diversity (including LGBT), Women in Business, and sports. All new team members are welcome to join our committees.

As part of the Belfast Digital Legal Delivery Disputes team, you will be invited to Learning and Development sessions which focus on both legal training and soft-skills such as drafting and presentations skills.

Key Responsibilities

Conducting work, under the supervision of senior Disputes lawyers, on large-scale contentious matters. This may include but is not limited to documentary analysis and reporting on large-scale contentious matters or supporting the efficient management of large-scale claims and investigations through consistent, high-quality analysis, with performance measured against agreed productivity and quality benchmarks.

Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of relevant areas of law to the Digital Legal Delivery Disputes practice.

Ensuring compliance with financial disciplines on matters (e.g. daily time-recording).

Qualifications, skills and experience

Essential

1. Law graduate (2:1 or above) or a post-graduate qualification in law with a minimum of 3 A levels (ideally B grades and above).

2. Ability to review, analyse and organise documentary and factual evidence.

3. Aptitude for learning (and becoming proficient in) the use of software and IT Applications.

4. An innovative mindset, with a strong interest in applying AI (including generative AI) and legal technology tools to improve legal service delivery.

Desirable

5. 6 months to a year’s work experience in an office-based environment.

6. Fluency in a second language with an ability to translate legal documents into English. Western European languages an advantage, but other languages (e.g. Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, Japanese, Korean or Russian) especially desirable.
