Behaviour Mentor Location: Bromsgrove Hours: 32.5 hours per week (8:30am - 3:30pm) Start Date: ASAP Contract Type: Temporary (with genuine potential for permanent placement) Applications without UK-based experience supporting adults, children or young people with SEN will not be considered. We are currently recruiting Behaviour Mentors for a specialist provision in the local area. These positions are not classroom-based and will involve providing focused, 1:1 support for students This is expected to be a long-term placement, working Monday to Friday. About the Role We are recruiting Behaviour Mentors to join a well‑established special school that supports pupils with a wide range of complex needs. This is a student‑facing, pastoral and behaviour‑focused role, not a classroom‑based Teaching Assistant position. You will be working Monday to Friday, providing tailored, 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils who require additional help with emotional regulation, behaviour, communication, and engagement in learning. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting vulnerable young people and who thrives in a role that is hands‑on, varied, and impactful. About the Students The school caters for pupils with a broad spectrum of needs, including: Autism (ASC) Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD) Down Syndrome Speech, Language and Communication needs Associated challenging behaviours Pupils often use a combination of communication methods such as visual supports, speech, signing (e.g., Makaton), and assistive communication tools. The ability to adapt your communication style is essential. Key Responsibilities As a Behaviour Mentor, your role may include: Providing 1:1 or small‑group behaviour support throughout the school day Implementing strategies that help pupils regulate emotions and develop positive coping skills Supporting pupils during lessons, unstructured times, and transitions Using de‑escalation approaches and following behaviour support plans Helping students engage safely and positively with learning activities Building trusting, consistent relationships with pupils who may display challenging behaviour Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and pastoral staff Recording incidents and progress in line with school policies Promoting independence, confidence, and positive behaviour choices Candidate Requirements We are looking for individuals who are: Confident in managing challenging behaviour Skilled in de‑escalation, remaining calm under pressure Patient, resilient, and consistent in their approach Strong communicators, with the ability to use or learn visual supports/signing Able to follow structured behaviour plans while also thinking on their feet Available Monday-Friday, term‑time Reliable, enthusiastic, and able to build meaningful relationships Team players who can take guidance but also use initiative Highly desirable experience: SEN settings (ASC, SEMH, SLD, PMLD, MLD) Behaviour support roles Youth work, care work, or residential settings Experience using Makaton, PECs, or other alternative communication tools Why Work With Monarch Education?
