We are seeking a Manager to lead our Economic Crime Unit (ECU), which is part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The ECU lead will head a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals. This is a hybrid role with travel across the country for meetings and operational duties, and incident response may be required.
Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership for financial investigations and ensure compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Line manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer; motivate, develop, and manage performance and delivery.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC); influence at senior levels to support EA priorities.
* Support the wider organisation in improving processes and understanding POCA; share lessons learned, contribute to technical documentation, and advise enforcement officers nationwide.
* Work with the two ECU teams (Asset Denial and Money Laundering) alongside Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers, and Crime Analysts in a nationally dispersed team.
Qualifications and experience
* Exceptional leadership skills, with experience leading a dispersed team preferred.
* Strong understanding of financial investigations and POCA.
* Experience in law enforcement or a related sector with knowledge of the National Intelligence Model.
* Effective communication, performance management, and stakeholder relationship-building skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and prioritise a varied workload; identify areas for improvement and lead changes to working practices.
* Experience developing and enhancing team capability and the individuals within it.
Experience/skills required
* Working in the law enforcement sector and understanding of the National Intelligence Model.
* Communicating effectively with external stakeholders and managing performance.
* Ability to work under pressure and prioritise a varied workload.
* Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices.
* Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and its members.
Additional information
* This is a hybrid role with flexibility to work from home and your nearest office. Travel across the country for meetings and operational duties is required.
* Incident response is part of the role; you may be required to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident, which may attract an additional payment.
