• Salary: Up to £67,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Job Introduction
Audio Sport is a key part of BBC Sport, BBC Sounds and Radio 5 Live’s output, including 5 Live Sport, world class commentaries across a wide range of sports, nation-uniting major event coverage and sport podcasts like Football Daily and Rugby Union Weekly.
We are looking for Assistant Editors to be leaders in our award-winning team of broadcasters, producers, journalists, engineers and production management staff. They’ll need to have experience of leading teams, be organised and possess excellent communication skills.
The successful candidates will be razor-sharp editorially and be comfortable working closely with many of the UK’s best sports broadcasters.
It will be vital that they embrace multi-platform working and have a drive to contribute to the digital growth of BBC Sport and BBC Sounds.
Main Responsibilities
* The successful candidates will lead teams across audio, whilst continuing to develop new content to the highest standards within agreed budgets and schedules.
* Work in tandem with BBC colleagues in Sport Stories and Sport Events to ensure content works across platforms, including joint commissioning.
* Manage teams and oversee daily audio output, providing strong editorial and creative leadership with the ability to offer guidance and advice.
* Regularly output edit 5 Live Sport programmes
* Work closely with BBC Sport’s Head of Audio, Heads of Production and Production Management teams to ensure the successful delivery of content within budget and the BBC’s editorial guidelines.
* Work closely with Sport Stories, developing and maintaining high professional standards of journalism; ensuring delivery of high quality content across audio and digital platforms.
* Take on editorial responsibility for a part of Audio Sport’s live event coverage, working closely with Sport Events and colleagues across BBC Sport.
* Develop ideas for digital growth on Audio Sport’s digital platforms and contribute to BBC Sport’s overall digital growth strategy.
* Responsibilities for team development; ensuring the best use of individual skills, setting team and individual objectives, and clear expectations about required performance levels.
* Contribute to ensuring that everyone in their teams work to the BBC’s values and BBC Sport behaviours.
* Seek ways to increase diversity in our workforce and to ensure that our output reflects the audiences we serve.
Are you the right candidate?
* A passion for sport with great contacts across the sporting world, including people who can bring the best insight and expertise to our audiences.
* A track record of line management and leading teams to deliver high quality content in a professional environment (Broadcasting or Journalism)
* Outstanding editorial judgement and the talent to spot a good story
* The ability to motivate staff to produce innovative and imaginative content in both live programming and on-demand audio.
* Possess collaborative skills to ensure you work well with Production management teams and other editorial teams across BBC Sport.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to collaborate with all parts of BBC Sport and the wider BBC.
* Confidence to work with, and feed back to, high profile broadcasters.
* A commitment to diversity and making BBC Sport’s output as inclusive as possible.
* Experience of communicating effectively, both internally and outside the BBC.
