About the Role
Braintree District Council is recruiting a Waste Minimisation & Sustainability Supervisor on a 6‑month temporary contract, based in Braintree, Essex. The successful candidate will work on‑site at least four days per week.
Role Accountabilities
* Team Supervision & Performance: Manage day‑to‑day operations of the Waste Minimisation & Sustainability team, assigning tasks, monitoring workloads and performance, conducting regular coaching and mentoring, and maintaining high morale through training and team building.
* Public Engagement & Education: Lead community outreach to promote recycling and waste reduction, develop and deliver educational campaigns and events, conduct door‑to‑door visits, organise local sustainability projects, and collaborate with Communications and Marketing on publicity.
* Service Support & Administration: Oversee administrative tasks, maintain procedures and records, handle statutory duties, manage internal systems for service requests, and respond to public communications.
* Project & Initiative Coordination: Design and present waste minimisation projects, plan campaigns, use project management tools, and collaborate with frontline staff to improve recycling rates.
* Customer Focus & Service Improvement: Maintain customer service orientation, gather resident feedback, use data for continuous improvement, and keep public information accurate.
Qualifications & Experience
* Background in waste and recycling services or sustainability is advantageous.
* Proven experience coordinating or supervising teams and projects is required.
* Experience in community engagement or delivering educational programmes is highly desirable.
* Track record of data analysis and reporting to stakeholders is beneficial.
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate at all levels.
