Consultant Ophthalmologist with s/i in Medical Retina

The candidate would join a team of 8 consultants, 4 speciality doctors, 1 speciality registrar and 1 GP trainee, offering a full range of services.
Main duties of the job
You will participate in departmental teaching and study opportunities and attend recognised courses if they do not compromise service delivery.
The unit is supported by a full orthoptic department and a highly trained nursing team, providing a glaucoma service, RMD service and one‑stop cataract assessment. The Ophthalmology Department is based in the Treatment Centre at Burton for both out patients and day case procedures. We provide consultant outreach services in local community settings.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Eligibility
* MBBS / MBChB or equivalent
* FRCOphth or equivalent higher qualification
* GMC Specialist Register for Ophthalmology Specialty OR within 6 months of receipt of CCT at time of interview OR if applying for Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice simultaneously with a Portfolio Pathway application, supporting documentary evidence must be provided at interview to confirm an application has been submitted and is under consideration by the GMC.
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice at time of application
* Additional higher medical/scientific degree relevant to the specialty
Clinical Knowledge and Skills
* Proven clinical experience in Ophthalmology, with a broad experience of the speciality, minimum of 6 years, 3 years of which should be at speciality registrar level
* Retinal laser, intravitreal injections
* Medical Retina Fellowship
* Evidence of independent clinical practice
* Ability to carry out high volume cataract surgery
* 1 year NHS experience
Management and Admin experience
* Commitment to Continuing Professional Development and the requirements of clinical governance, reporting errors and learning from these
* Attended a management/leadership course
Language and Communication Skills
* Experience of formal presentations
* Evidence of ability to work as part of an MDT, sharing administrative duties
Teaching, Audit and Research Experience
* Evidence and experience of supervising and teaching resident doctors and medical students
* Experience of and commitment to clinical audit and/or QIP
* Evidence of ability to assess and apply evidence-based research into everyday clinical practice
* Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements relevant to the specialty
* Specific Teaching Qualification
* Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
* Attended a recognised teaching training course
