Job overview

1 Full time (37.5 hours per week) post to work between North and North East Lincolnshire, based primarily in Brigg/Scunthorpe/Grimsby, with occasional travel to Hull and East Riding screening venues.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, flexible and motivated person to join the Humber Diabetic Eye Screening Programme as a Retinal Screening Photographer. The successful applicant will work with the Diabetic Eye screening team and be responsible for providing visual acuity examinations and digital photography during diabetic eye screening clinics.

The successful applicant will be given full in house training to ensure they are competent to administer patient eye drops and perform a visual acuity test in preparing the patient for digital photography. The successful applicant will also be given full training to perform digital photography of the patient’s retina in a dark environment within an office or mobile unit. Excellent patient management during clinics is essential to ensure a timely screening process.

The successful candidate must hold a current and full driving license and will be expected to undertake a trust driving assessment.

Please note that this advertised vacancy does not meet the UKVI eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa and therefore HUTH would not be able to issue a Certificate of Sponsorship for this role.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is required to work towards and complete a Health Screener Diploma in Retinal Screening.

The post holder will be supported to complete training requirements and the NHS Screener diploma with an allocated mentor/Assessor.

The 4 mandatory units of the Health Screener Diploma are to be completed within 4 months of appointment to work independently, with the remainder of the qualification to be completed within 2 years of appointment to post. If you terminate your employment with the Trust during a programme of study, or up to 1 year following completion, you may be required to reimburse the Trust’s contribution towards course fees. The final reimbursement figure will be determined after considering the benefits afforded to service to date.

The Trust is undergoing service transformations and review, therefore there may be a requirement in future for weekend work. The successful candidate must be able to travel to their base of work, travel expenses are not provided.

The post is an excellent opportunity to join an award-nominated, efficient and cost effective department that focuses on developing its personnel whilst providing excellent quality patient care.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication and team working skills, together with an ability to prioritise workload and work flexibly under pressure to achieve deadlines.
