Behaviour Support Practitioner – Behaviour Unit Via Teaching Personnel | Full-Time & Part-Time Opportunities Teaching Personnel are proud to be working in partnership with a specialist behaviour unit to recruit resilient, compassionate and trauma‑informed Behaviour Support Practitioners. This is a role for someone who understands that behaviour is communication — and that while some days can be demanding, the impact you make can be truly life‑changing. No two days are the same, and every day matters. About the Setting The setting is a highly specialised behaviour unit supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom also have Additional Learning Needs (ALN). Pupils may: Have experienced trauma or adverse childhood experiences Display behaviours that may be out of the norm Become dysregulated due to environmental or emotional triggers The environment is structured, nurturing and child‑centred, with a strong focus on: Emotional regulation and co‑regulation De‑escalation and positive handling strategies Use of safe spaces away from triggers Relationship‑based, trauma‑informed practice Staff work closely together to provide consistent support, boundaries and reassurance throughout the school day. The Role As a Behaviour Support Practitioner, you will: Support pupils on a 1:1 and small‑group basis Respond confidently and calmly to challenging and high‑intensity behaviours Remove pupils from triggering environments when required Support pupils to re‑regulate emotions using trauma‑informed strategies Help pupils return to learning when they are ready Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who struggle to engage Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff and support teams Be a steady, reassuring presence during moments of distress or overwhelm ⚠️ This role can be challenging — pupils may exhibit behaviours that require patience, consistency and emotional resilience. However, for the right person, the rewards far outweigh the challenges.
