Senior Bookkeeper | AAT Qualified | £35,000–£40,000 per annum The Opportunity We are a growing, independent accountancy practice based in Milton Keynes, recognised for delivering tailored accountancy and advisory services and for building long-term client relationships. Due to continued growth, we are now seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join our supportive and collaborative team. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive bookkeeper to manage a varied client portfolio, play a key role within the team, and support the development of junior staff. The role is full-time, Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, with hybrid working (3 days in the office, 2 days from home). Key Responsibilities * Balance sheet reconciliations including bank, VAT, credit cards, receivables, payables, payroll, CIS, intercompany, loans, and other balance sheet items * Processing supplier bills and expenses * Managing supplier payments * Credit control * Preparing and reviewing VAT returns * Facilitating and managing software integrations * Supporting year-end accounts preparation * Daily communication with clients and responding to ad-hoc requests * Reviewing work completed by team members * Managing a varied portfolio of clients * Maintaining strong client relationships * Supporting, training, and developing junior members of the team Skills & Experience Required * 5 years’ bookkeeping experience (essential), ideally gained within an accountancy practice * Strong experience managing bookkeeping duties through to trial balance * Excellent VAT knowledge, with confidence in preparing and reviewing VAT returns * Previous experience working within accountancy practice, managing multiple clients and deadlines * Strong working knowledge of Xero (essential); experience with Sage and QuickBooks is desirable * High level of attention to detail and accuracy * Confident and professional client-facing manner * Ability to think proactively and provide practical solutions to client challenges * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Health Assured Programme and sick pay * Enhanced maternity and paternity leave * Bonus scheme * Supportive and collaborative team culture * Clear opportunities for career progression and development * Training provided
