About the School and Provision

A forward-thinking secondary school in North London is seeking a skilled ARP Teaching Assistant to support students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. The Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP) supports students who require personalised, structured learning programmes alongside opportunities for integration into mainstream lessons.

The school prides itself on inclusive practice, recognising that students with complex needs thrive best in environments that combine structure, specialist support, and positive relationships. The ARP team works collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and external professionals to deliver tailored educational and behavioural programmes.

About the Role

As an ARP Teaching Assistant, you will support students aged 11–16 both within the specialist ARP and during integration into mainstream lessons. Your focus will be on supporting academic progress, communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation. You will provide direct support to students, assist in the implementation of personalised learning plans, and contribute to their overall wellbeing and development.

This role requires patience, flexibility, and a deep understanding of adolescent development and SEN. You will work with students who may display anxiety, communication difficulties, sensory sensitivities, or challenging behaviour.

* Implement individualised learning and behaviour plans

* Assist students with sensory regulation and communication strategies

* Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour development

* Assist with personal care or medical needs when required

* Monitor student progress and contribute to EHCP reviews and meetings

* Maintain accurate observations and records

* Promote social skills, independence, and resilience

* Support transitions between ARP and mainstream lessons

* Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, therapists, and families

* Ensure the ARP environment is safe, structured, and supportive

* Support safeguarding, health, and safety policies

* Has experience working with secondary students with SEN, particularly ASC

* Understands EHCPs and personalised approaches

* Is patient, empathetic, and emotionally resilient

* Can remain calm in challenging situations

* Has excellent teamwork and communication skills

* Is committed to inclusive education and safeguarding

Experience in ARPs, SEMH settings, or specialist provisions is highly desirable. Candidates with transferable experience from care or youth support roles are encouraged to apply.

Training & Professional Development

* Autism awareness and sensory support training

* Positive behaviour support and de-escalation strategies

* Safeguarding and child protection

* Ongoing supervision and mentoring
