We are excited to announce the opening of a brand-new Options Autism school in County Durham, designed to provide exceptional education and support for pupils with a variety of needs, including Autism. Trimdon Hill School, located in Durham, caters for 40 pupils aged 4 to 11 years and opened in June 2025. We are currently recruiting a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join the team and help shape the future of this school.
* Job Role: 1:1 Teaching Assistant
* Salary: £20,906.25 per annum
* Location: Durham, North East, TS29 6EY
* Hours: 37.5 hours per week; Monday 8.30am-5pm, Tuesday 8.30am-4.30pm, Wednesday 8.30am-5pm, Thursday 8.30am-4pm, Friday 8.30am-4pm
* Contract: Permanent, Term Time only

What You'll Be Doing
* Supporting a pupil 1:1 with their personalised learning programme
* Building their confidence, independence, and emotional resilience
* Helping deliver classroom activities, sensory learning, and outdoor play
* Supporting communication and social skills development
* Providing care and guidance in a trauma-informed, autism-friendly environment
* Working closely with teachers, therapists, and families to give each child the best experience possible
Who We Are Looking For
We would love to hear from candidates who have their GCSE C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths and who have some experience with SEN and working within a school. You will be adaptable and ready to work in a variety of classroom roles, both indoors and outside according to individual need. A responsive and caring approach is essential, including running classroom activities, leading outdoor experiences, or supervising pupils as they explore further afield.
