Locations: Glasgow, Paisley, Edinburgh, Ayr, Stirling, London, Chatham (Kent), Canterbury, Bognor Regis (West Sussex), Brighton, Colchester, Gloucester, Keele and Dublin.

Pay: £743.03 – £847.25 per week (including holiday pay). Accommodation included. Duration: Summer 2026.


Job Overview

The Academic Manager is responsible for the implementation and administration of all aspects of the academic programme, including the management of the teaching team and their performance. This is a demanding management position with a 42‑hour working week. The working week may vary by campus and can include up to 6 days with Saturdays included at 6‑day campuses.


Essential Requirements

* Educated to degree level (Level 6) or higher.
* Cambridge CELTA/Trinity CERT TESOL, or a QTS award if it is primary level, or secondary level English or Foreign Languages.
* At least 3 years of full‑time EFL experience.
* Awareness of the responsibilities when working with students under 18.
* Computer literate and able to handle large amounts of data.
* Able to adapt quickly to change.


Desirable Requirements

* Cambridge DELTA or Trinity College London, Dip TESOL or PGCE TEFL/TESOL or a taught postgraduate course (MA equivalent) in TEFL/TESOL, including at least 6 hours of supervised teaching practice (TEFLQ Status).
* Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
* Over three years of full‑time EFL experience.
* Proven competence in academic leadership.
* Proven people management skills.
* Proven competence in administration.
* Smart personal appearance.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

* Ensure the safety and welfare of all students at all times.
* Work with the on‑campus management team to deliver a high‑quality, collegiate programme following guidelines and integrating lessons and activities where possible.
* Overall management of the academic programme and teaching team, ensuring it is of the highest standard.
* Read and understand the staff handbook and be conversant with all welfare and protection policies.
* Be inducted to at least level 2 safeguarding.
* Implement and monitor Health & Safety policies.
* Identify and follow First Aid policies and the Emergency Action Plan.
* Maintain records of welfare, safeguarding and Health & Safety issues and outcomes.
* Use Google Drive and the Master Spreadsheet to record, organise and manage academic programmes, student classing, and communication with staff.
* Coordinate placement tests with the Centre Manager, provide staff guidance, organise monitoring and marking, and manage temporary testing classes if required.
* Create class lists and registers, ensuring no more than 18 students per class and that students receive their class allocation as soon as possible.
* Maintain accurate, daily class lists and register attendance, and follow up on any concerns.
* Support and teach when necessary (teacher absence, sickness or insufficient student numbers).
* Lead academic staff induction days and conduct meetings (daily, weekly, and individual) to provide updates, feedback and professional development workshops.
* Manage teaching resources, equipment and stock, ensure safe and inclusive working environments, and pack and return all stock at the end of the contract.
* Maintain staff records, create accurate rotas, log weekly staff hours and summarise problems, solutions and outcomes.
* Lead in organising and delivering student certificates and graduation ceremonies, ensuring accurate printing and distribution.
* Complete required documentation and student records, manage Risk Assessment Forms for out‑of‑class lessons, and handle any additional paperwork as circumstances change.
* Provide a disclosure check (PVG/Enhanced) dated within three months of the start date, payable by the employee.
