The purpose of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) is to serve the public interest and support UK economic growth by upholding high standards of corporate governance, corporate reporting, audit and actuarial work. One of our strategic objectives in meeting this is our proportionate regulation of accounting, audit, assurance and actuarial work. This work will expect and encourage high quality by those responsible, acting as an improvement regulator and dealing effectively and fairly with cases where there are significant or serious shortcomings.
The FRC has been through a period of significant transformation, increasing its impact and influence and building its capability and capacity. Alongside supporting public trust and confidence in audit, corporate reporting and governance, it will play a key role in supporting and contributing to UK economic growth and competitiveness.
The new Executive Director of Investigations and Enforcement will be a key member of the executive leadership team and will provide leadership across the investigations and enforcement proceedings into matters in the remit, including potential breaches of audit, accountancy and actuarial standards, and misconduct by members of the professional bodies the FRC oversees. This person will ensure the FRC has a well led and governed system for timely, fair, robust, and transparent investigations and enforcement actions to maintain public confidence in the UK’s financial reporting and governance frameworks. As a member of the executive leadership team, this person will be responsible for developing and delivering the FRC’s overall purpose, strategy and priorities and provide vision and clarity as to the role played by the FRC’s investigation and enforcement functions.
The successful candidate will bring proven relevant senior leadership experience in a legal, audit or regulatory environment as well as demonstrable experience managing complex investigations or enforcement proceedings, ideally in a high-profile or sensitive regulatory context. This person will bring experience of engaging with senior stakeholders and a proven ability to drive change both in relation to devising and embedding new procedures and to inspire performance and continual improvement in teams.
