An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) for a 12 month band 7 fixed term role. The FLS works with mature patients sustaining a fragility fracture to identify those with Osteoporosis/ at a high risk of further fractures and placing these patients on a personalised treatment pathway. Fragility fractures account for a significant number of hospital beds and NHS budget each year and the role of the FLS is crucial in reducing these figures and helping our patients to enjoy quality of life well into maturity. We work with many specialist teams including Rheumatology, T&O Orthogeriatrics, Radiology and the wards as well as GP teams. The successful candidate will work closely with patients and specialist services within the Berks area to promote bone health and Osteoporosis knowledge. We are looking for a highly motivated colleague who enjoys working as part of a small but well-established team. A passion for working in preventative care and supporting patients to remain active as they mature is a must. Experience working in T&O, bone health or Rheumatology would be desirable. The role requires covering patient clinics, telephone calls to provide results and written communication. Presentations and involvement in Thames Valley group work would also be required. Main duties of the job

* Works across the acute trust and provides specialist clinical services to a defined patient group.
* Works strategically to influence the development of services both locally and nationally- particularly within the Thames Valley network
* Participates in local clinical audits and national collaboration for FLS including the FFFA
* Provides specialist education and training for staff, students and patients as well as primary care teams.
* Runs workshops for newly diagnosed patients.
* The post-holder works with the lead clinicians, care group managers and directors, to set and deliver the strategic vision of the services.

Job responsibilities

* The post-holder implements policy to support the development of the service

The post-holder displays excellent written and verbal communication and leadership skills.

The post-holder would have good Orthopaedics & bone health knowledge and experience.


Person Specification


Education and qualifications

* Registered Nurse/ AHP Degree level
* Resuscitation-minimum of Intermediate Life Support
* Significant post registration experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics/bone health
* Experience in Research and Audits
* Evidence of recent clinical practice in specialist area and evidence of recent appropriate experience.
* Nurse Prescribing Course/ Willingness to undertake


Experience and communication

* Excellent interpersonal skills with particular ability to liaise effectively with multidisciplinary team members
* Evidence of experience providing highest quality written communication to patients and clinical teams
* Good understanding of the guidance underpinning fracture prevention
* Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills
* Experience of change management and speciality development
* Understand blood monitoring and DEXA reporting
* Experience in presenting to clinicians
