Humanist and Non-Religious Chaplain – HMP Fosse Way, Leicester, LE18 4TN. Full Time, Permanent. £30,000 per annum. At Serco, we are looking for a Humanist and Non-Religious Chaplain to join the team at HMP Fosse Way in Leicester, a Category C prison with a capacity of 1,930 male inmates. We are dedicated to rehabilitation and preparing offenders for reintegration into society, creating a safe, supportive environment where both prisoners and staff can thrive. The chaplaincy work focuses on dignity, respect and positive, supportive relationships to promote rehabilitation within the prison community.
Responsibilities
* Act as Faith/Belief adviser in the establishment, providing advice, pastoral care and spiritual welfare to prisoners, staff and their families as requested.
* Plan and lead worship, meditation, prayer and faith/belief specific meetings; ensure accessible chaplaincy care at all times.
* Facilitate and deliver opportunities for worship, meditation, study and religious programmes; work with other Chaplains to maintain facilities for worship and prayer.
* Contribute to the development of local policy, procedures and practice.
* Provide pastoral care to prisoners and support to crisis situations; mentor and provide personal support for other chaplains and volunteers.
* Nurture Chaplaincy volunteers and facilitate services provided by contractors and volunteers.
* Coordinate awareness of religious events and distribute relevant faith/belief literature and materials.
* Contribute to training programmes for staff and volunteers; organise and deliver Faith Awareness Training.
* Provide support to the establishment in the absence of the Managing Chaplain.
* Actively support the Assessment, Care in Custody and Teamwork (ACCT) process.
* Attend relevant boards/meetings and contribute as chair or team member.
* Develop links with local faith/belief communities and other agencies; involve them in mentoring prisoners on release where appropriate.
* Engage in wider faith/belief community ministerial reviews as appropriate; develop ways to improve performance and achieve targets; manage relevant administration and data collection.
* Assist in Probation Approved Premises (APs) with offenders on release or serving community sentences by agreement.
What you will need to do the role
* Written confirmation of credentials, qualifications and accountability from the HMPPS Humanist and Non-Religious Faith and Belief Adviser prior to appointment and thereafter as required by policy.
* Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and ongoing membership of the endorsing body; demonstrate regular reflection or training towards professional development.
* Endorsement from the HMPPS Humanist and Non-Religious Faith and Belief Adviser (evidence required before appointment).
* Good IT literacy.
* Making Effective Decisions; stakeholder management; collaborative team working.
* Sound ethical and professional standards; confident, credible communication skills.
* Able to contribute to a safe and secure environment; ability to influence, plan and organise to achieve high outcomes; manage complex processes.
