Job Summary

The Security Services Group (SSG) is a specialist business unit delivering high assurance security solutions across the MOD and wider Government Estate. With over 260 highly skilled experts based in the UK, Germany, Cyprus, and Gibraltar, SSG designs, installs, and maintains advanced security systems to protect Defence operations, national security assets, and critical government infrastructure. This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job Description

The Senior Security Manager role is an important part of SSG’s Governance and Assurance function within SSG’s Headquarters.

Supporting the operation, evaluation, and continued improvement of SSG’s security compliance in line with MOD requirements, this role plays a critical part in contributing to SSG’s systematic, disciplined approach to risk management, control, governance and assurance processes.

The Senior Security Manager will assume the role of a STRAPSO Practitioner for SSG, liaising with Army PSyA and other MOD and OGD STRAPSO as necessary.

The Senior Security Manager will provide customer interface, represent SSG at high level meetings, and undertake complex discussions and negotiations with key stakeholders.

Leadership and Line Management


* Demonstrate a personal commitment to the MOD/SSG Principles
* Responsible for enabling Hd SSG and wider HMG to deliver targets and goals both safely and legally.
* Promote strong working relationships both within SSG and wider MOD.
* Future Line Management responsibilities for 1 direct report.

Security

* Support the Governance and Assurance AH in understanding and managing the security risk to all SSG assets, people, and data; ensuring assets are protected appropriately and within Legislation, Regulation and MOD policy.
* Oversee the provision of support and guidance on Security Management within SSG, delivering security training and education to SSG’s geographically dispersed personnel.
* Overall ownership, review and continuous improvement of SSG’s security compliance.
* Act as SSG’s STRAPSO Practitioner, assisting DIO with STRAP/TK Read On and Read Off, liaising with DIO PSyA and other MOD and OGD STRAPSO as necessary.
* Maintain and govern SSG security risks. Assist the Governance and Assurance AH in the development and monitoring of the security risks.
* Establishment security authority.
* Co-ordinate and deliver SSG’s internal assurance plan to support future TLB led audits.
* Investigate Security Incidents and Breaches as required.
* Produce management reports and recommendations to the SSG HMG where necessary.
* Manage engagement from Army for this area of responsibility.
* Take lead on any initiatives and tasks that fall within the security area of responsibility.

Supporting Organisational Change

* Keep up to date with Security standards.
* Support SSG and wider MOD Change Programmes and Initiatives.
* Support SSG assurance their continued improvement program.
* Other Tasks
* Other tasks as required to support Governance and Assurance AH in the delivery of Governance and Assurance across SSG.
* Keep up to date with Department policies, processes and best practice.

Person specification

Essential Requirements

* Strong analytical skills in order to deliver briefings on Security to HMG and Hd SSG to support decisions including prioritisation and resourcing.
* An excellent understanding of British, European and UK Government Standards relating to security, together with knowledge of QA, H&S and the associated policy guidance.
* Experience of working within the MOD or similar organisation.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Undertake complex discussions and process reviews with SSG Ops/HQ Staff and wider stakeholders.
* Be self-motivated and have excellent organisational skills.
* A willingness to learn unfamiliar areas.
* Demonstrate a flexible approach to work and a willingness to attend site meetings and other locations when necessary.
* Effective interpretation of policy and legislation.
* Applicants must hold a Full UK driving licence.
* Applicants must hold Developed Vetting clearance.
* Applicants must be a STRAPSO Practitioner.
* Experience of Protective Security & Risk Management (or equivalent)
