Job Overview
An Illegal Connections Technician will proactively investigate pollution caused by household waste reaching the local environment via the surface water sewer network. The role focuses on bathing waters, using various techniques to monitor outfalls, trace issues to their source, liaise with responsible persons, and report milestones.
Responsibilities
1. Proactively monitor the surface water sewer and trace signs of pollution to the source.
2. Communicate clearly and professionally with responsible persons for misconnections.
3. Notify internal stakeholders of illegal connections and update on milestones.
4. Issue letters to offending properties following WATER UK guidelines.
5. Engage with Local authorities when escalation is necessary.
6. Plan investigations effectively, prioritising based on severity and commitments.
7. Collect samples and understand analytical results.
About You
1. Strong stakeholder engagement skills.
2. Knowledge of the surface sewer system/water networks is desirable.
3. Solution-driven, tenacious, with a curious mindset.
4. Ability to self-manage workload and time, self-motivated.
5. Strong IT and Microsoft Office skills.
6. Flexible working hours and willingness to travel within Sussex.
7. Water Industry knowledge is an advantage but not essential.
