Application Team Lead role at interactive investor

Role purpose

The Application Engineering Manager is primarily responsible for managing a team of developers, with a focus on people management, skills and talent development, career progression, resourcing management, and software development practices. The role requires a strong technical background to guide and support a team of technical people and to maintain a level of personal technical skills to effectively lead the team.

They work with the Senior Manager to strategise and plan resourcing, allocate resources for squads and projects, manage recruitment, and develop skills and talent within the team. They partner with engineers to develop and implement software development processes, methodologies, and patterns. They report to a Senior Manager and operate within the technical domain while collaborating with other functions on technical management. The role includes responsibility for change within delegated subsets of the overall technical domain, and may involve some hands-on coding.


Responsibilities

* Lead, mentor, coach, recruit and manage a team of software engineers, ensuring high levels of motivation, performance, and productivity.
* Drive technical innovation and continuous improvement within the team.
* Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless workflow and efficient task management within squads.
* Advise and coach best practices for software development, including code reviews, testing, and continuous integration.
* Help prioritise outcomes and OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) and actively influence their achievement.
* Facilitate effective communication within the team and across departments.
* Monitor team health and well-being through regular surveys and one-on-one meetings, fostering an open and productive environment.
* Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and support professional development of team members.
* Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in software development and delivery.
* Maintain a deep understanding of risk and controls of software development in a regulated industry.


Experience / Qualifications

* Extensive experience working within a development environment and development teams, with a focus on software engineering methodologies, patterns, and practices.
* Proficiency in the programming language used by the team to provide guidance and evaluate work.
* Experience in a leadership role, managing technical teams and leading process improvement initiatives.
* Previous experience delivering change to business-critical, highly available customer-facing platforms.
* Experience managing and mentoring a team of developers, including performance management, career development, and recruitment.
* Proven ability to work autonomously and own assigned project deliverables.
