First Military Recruitment is currently seeking a Senior Design Manager on behalf of one of our clients. The role involves working on a large-scale commercial project to manage the design process, design team, and trade contractor design. Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel; however, all candidates will be given due consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the appointment of the design team and manage design team contracts to meet cost, time, quality, and safety requirements.
2. Manage the creation of the project design management plan and ensure all design team members are aware of their responsibilities.
3. Oversee the production and coordination of the design programme, employer's requirements, and design deliverables schedule throughout the project.
4. Chair design team meetings and other design-oriented meetings.
5. Ensure clear record keeping and monitoring of the design process, programme, and deliverables.
6. Review and approve design information throughout the project.
7. Ensure the design complies with the client brief, contract, current legislation, town planning, building regulations, CDM, and relevant technical requirements.
8. Maintain responsibilities under CDM regulations within the project and design teams.
9. Lead buildability and value engineering reviews.
10. Ensure BIM execution plan and CAD protocol are maintained.
11. Verify that contractors' proposals are compliant with employer’s requirements.
12. Include any design derogations in the contract.
13. Monitor and report on design progress weekly and monthly, taking action to ensure timely delivery within budget and safety standards.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. Proven experience in delivering commercial projects through bid, PCSA, and delivery stages, successfully meeting quality, time, and budget targets.
2. Experience with various contract forms including NEC3 & 4, and JCT.
3. Professional architectural or engineering qualification.
4. Extensive experience in design delivery for building, civil engineering, and MEP installations.
5. Experience in delivering design across all project phases: bidding, pre-construction, and construction.
6. Proficiency with digital technologies such as CDE, BIM, and design coordination software, and familiarity with ISO19650 standards.
7. Knowledge of CDM Regulations and Principal Designer duties.
8. Experience with sustainability tools like BREEAM.
