Job Opportunity: Porter – Healthcare Support Services Pay Rate: £12.51 per hour Hours: 37.5 hours per week Shift Pattern: 5 out of 7, working 8-hour shifts within a 24-hour period About the Role We are looking for reliable, caring, and motivated Porters to join our Healthcare Support Services team at North Devon District Hospital. This is a vital role that ensures the safe and efficient movement of patients, equipment, and materials across the hospital, helping to keep essential services running smoothly. Key Responsibilities Safely transport patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed between wards and departments. Deliver specimens, medical records, pharmacy items, and equipment across the hospital. Support clinical teams during emergencies, including attending cardiac arrests with the resus trolley. Remove clinical and non-clinical waste, linen, and recycling, ensuring safe and hygienic practices. Assist with patient handling and transfers, following safe manual handling procedures. Maintain cleanliness of porters’ lodges, equipment, and designated areas. Provide professional and courteous assistance to patients, staff, and visitors. Uphold health and safety standards, infection control policies, and confidentiality requirements. What We’re Looking For Basic literacy and numeracy skills (NVQ Level 1/2 desirable). Previous portering or healthcare experience (desirable but not essential). Good communication skills and a strong customer service approach. Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and as part of a team. Physically fit and able to carry out manual handling tasks. Flexible to work across different shifts, including weekends.
