Private Client Paralegal Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Private Client Paralegal to join our team. As a key member of our department, you will play a crucial role in supporting our clients and Solicitors with legal administration activities related to Wills, Trusts & Probate.
Your primary responsibilities will include assisting a Solicitor in all manner of private client work, including wills and probate, Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs), trusts, and estates. You will take ownership of the legal administration tasks, assist with the production of marketing materials and seminar notes, maintain compliant files, and assist with drafting client correspondence and reports. You will become familiar with our firm's compliance procedures for letters of engagement, file opening, and money laundering regulations.
You will be invaluable by:
* Engaging with clients visiting the office in the absence of a Solicitor
* Completion of non-taxable probate applications
* Managing all administrative aspects of the probate process from outset to closure (initial letters, assets & liabilities spreadsheets, speaking to providers, account closure/transfer forms, collecting assets, recording funds received, communicating with clients)
* Advising clients on the probate process
* Completion of inheritance tax forms for HMRC
* Determining whether an estate requires HMRC involvement
* Creation of client invoices
* Updating and maintaining the case management system
* Tracking progress of each client case to adequately support the fee earner
* Understanding the effects of different clauses in wills, including those with complex trust arrangements
* Offering professional support to sometimes vulnerable clients, occasionally as the first point of contact following a bereavement
* Abiding by SRA regulations and conducting AML compliance checks
To succeed in this role, you will have prior experience working in a private practice law firm, preferably with a focus on Private Client work. You will have a keen eye for detail, passion for private client work, and a client-centric attitude in all your work. Familiarity with systems such as MyHMCTS and Quill would be advantageous.
The position can be fully office-based or we would consider hybrid working, one-two days per week from home.
