Overview

A Vacancy at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The primary role of the Maternity Support Worker (MSW) is to assist, support and work in collaboration with the midwife and the wider multidisciplinary team; in order to provide a safe and holistic approach to women centred care.

The MSW will work alongside Midwives and other health professionals in the provision of safe and excellent care to women and their babies. The MSW will receive relevant training and once deemed competent to do so, will have an array of skills to support midwives, some of the skills are listed below.


Responsibilities

* Ensure the clinical areas are stocked, clean and ready for use, and ensure equipment is safe and PAT tested.
* Conduct clinical observations of mother and baby.
* Venepuncture and cannulation (where trained).
* Provide feeding support including breast and bottle feeding.
* Deliver diabetes care and promote health education.
* Provide emergency care including new-born life support among other duties.
* Work on a rotational basis to gain clinical competence around the maternity unit and become multiskilled.


Progression and Qualifications

* You will be recruited at Band 2 if you have not yet completed CUH HCSW induction which includes completion of the Care Certificate and Competencies. Once completed you will move up to Band 3. If you are currently working in a support worker role and have therefore completed these, you will be recruited as Band 3.
* The process for functional skills has now changed; this is conducted as a second interview on TRAC following any applicant that is successful at their initial interview. It is organised by recruitment and you must achieve a pass rate of at least 50% to receive a conditional offer. This process applies to anyone that is not currently working as a Support Worker at CUH.
* There is an opportunity to undertake the MSW apprenticeship through Dynamic.

* Due to Home Office immigration rules, a full-time permanent vacancy cannot be filled by individuals on a Student visa. If you are a Student visa holder, we will not be able to offer a full-time permanent contract unless you have: applied for a Graduate visa; or completed your course and applied for a Graduate visa before the anticipated start date; or the Trust has agreed Sponsorship as a Skilled Worker with studies completed within 3 months of start date.
