The Development Underwriter is responsible for processing refurbishment and development finance applications where initial terms have been issued. The Underwriter must work together with the other members of the Underwriting team to ensure that loans are processed in accordance with underwriting manual and lending policy. The Underwriter must use their skill and experience to approve those loans which are deemed acceptable and reject any which are unacceptable and represent a risk to the company.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage a pipeline of development cases for initial completions and subsequent drawdowns and prioritise accordingly
* Underwrite loan applications within company lending criteria by making quality lending decisions
* Manage completed development loans and keep in regular contact with borrowers to identify issues at any early stage and seek out future business opportunities
* Be vigilant when working on cases and refer where necessary to the appropriate person
* Always maintain a high level of communication with interested parties including brokers,
applicants, surveyors and solicitors
* Maintain a high level of customer service with those internally and externally
* Work closely with other departments within the company including sales, compliance,
finance and collections
* Think outside the box and be proactive when suggesting ways to overcome potential problems, whilst ensuring that there is no additional risk to the company
* Maintain oversight of a loan post completion and follow up on any other conditions prior to handing the loan to collections
* Keep up to date with current best practice and regulatory requirements
* Keep all records up to date
* Represent the company at events as required
Key Competencies:
* Strong experience of underwriting development finance loans, preferably including FCA regulated loans
* Experience managing people useful
* Excellent understanding of compliance aspects of the role including the regulatory
environment and TCF principles
* Ability to adopt a pragmatic approach to underwriting
* Commercially aware
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
* Excellent attention to detail
* Ability to work to tight timeframes

* Maintaining a strong level of pipeline cases which are kept fully up to date
