Research Associate/Assistant Research Professor – Automated Language Teaching & Assessment (Fixed Term)
Fixed‑term: Post funding is available for 12 months.
The Cambridge Institute for Automated Language Teaching and Assessment (ALTA) invites applications for a research associate/assistant research professor to join the Department of Computer Science and Technology. ALTA researchers from Computer Science, Engineering and across the University investigate novel technology to enhance language learning and develop cutting‑edge assessment approaches.
Qualifications
* Relevant degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Linguistics.
* PhD or equivalent experience; for Assistant Research Professor grade, several years of research experience.
* Strong independent research ability and collaborative teamwork.
* Excellent communication to academic audiences and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
* Carry out research consistent with ALTA aims, especially automated assessment of language learning.
* Develop novel research projects aligned with ALTA mission; conduct individual and collaborative projects.
* Write research for presentation and publication in leading workshops, conferences or journals.
* Stay current in field; translate advances into research activity.
* Manage own research and administrative activities with guidance if required.
* Communicate specialist materials to stakeholders including ALTA colleagues, sponsors and wider research community.
* Ensure timely reporting for ALTA Annual Review, including posters, oral presentations, written summaries, milestone logging and preprint sharing with sponsors.
* Attend and contribute to weekly ALTA research meetings.
* Contribute to wider research community through reviewing or organising activities for academic events such as conferences and workshops.
Teaching and Learning Support
* May assist in supervision of student projects.
* May provide limited supervision/instruction to classes.
* May assist in development of student research skills.
* May plan and deliver seminars relating to research area.
Liaison and Networking
* Liaise with colleagues and students on routine matters.
* Make internal and external contacts to develop knowledge, understanding and relationships for future collaboration.
Planning and Organising
* Plan use of research resources, computing facilities and human participants as appropriate.
* Plan and manage own research and development in collaboration with others.
* Organise projects from start to finish, with guidance from supervisor(s).

In addition to the base salary stated above, the successful candidate for this post will receive an additional 2.5% supplement to their pay.
