Responsibilities
* A phlebotomist obtains venous, finger, heel puncture blood specimens for clinical laboratory examination.
* Performs order entry functions in the laboratory computer system.
* Processes specimens drawn in the hospital and specimens received from outpatient accounts.
Qualifications
* Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of phlebotomy course with at least 120 hours of clinical rotation in a medical arena or completion of phlebotomy course and appropriate experience of at least one year.
* Minimum Experience: One year of recent phlebotomy experience preferred; new graduates will be considered with instructor recommendation. Must demonstrate excellent phlebotomy skill and knowledge. Evening and night shift phlebotomists must have significant experience with all age groups.
* Required Certification/Registration: ASCP certification preferred.
* Physical Requirements: Position will primarily be light work requiring lifting up to 25 pounds with occasional lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Occasional bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling and reaching is required. Requires 80% sitting and 20% standing or walking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word is required.
* Compensation: The compensation range for the role is $21.37- $27.05 hourly. Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with New York State salary transparency laws. The range listed does not include bonuses, incentives, or other forms of compensation or benefits. Several factors may be considered when determining base pay (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).

* Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated or ventilated facility. No routine exposure to hazards.
* Physical Demands: Ability to perform full anatomical range of motion; visual and aural acuity; dexterity to operate computer and office equipment; ability to sit for long periods and to stand/walk as needed; ability to lift 25 lbs.
* Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, work well under pressure, organize and synthesize information, prioritize tasks, multi-task, and maintain attention to detail in a dynamic environment. May require irregular hours including evenings or weekends for operational/community events.
