We are committed to delivering an inclusive, supportive, and nurturing environment that empowers young people with diverse needs to achieve their potential.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Mental Health Support Worker to provide direct support to students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting students’ wellbeing, building resilience, and ensuring they are fully included in all aspects of college life.

Responsibilities

* Provide one-to-one and small group emotional support to students with SEND.
* Develop personalised support strategies to help students manage anxiety, stress, and low mood.
* Work alongside teaching staff, pastoral staff, and external professionals to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
* Implement interventions that build students’ coping mechanisms, self-esteem, and confidence.
* Support students in attending and engaging with lessons, workshops, and enrichment activities.
* Monitor, record, and report on students’ progress and wellbeing, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with safeguarding procedures.
* Assist with the creation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and contribute to EHCP reviews.
* Respond calmly and effectively to crises, de-escalating situations with empathy and professionalism.
* Signpost students and families to external services where additional specialist help is required.

Qualifications and Experience

* Experience supporting young people with mental health needs, ideally within an educational or SEND setting.
* Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection.
* Understanding of SEND and SEMH-related conditions (e.g., Autism, ADHD, anxiety, trauma-related challenges).
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to individual student needs.
* A caring, empathetic, and resilient approach.
* Relevant qualifications in mental health, youth work, or education are desirable but not essential. Training will be provided.

Benefits

* Competitive salary exceeding the National Minimum Wage.
* Ongoing CPD and professional development opportunities.
* Supportive and collaborative working environment.
* Opportunity to make a real impact on the lives of young people with SEND.
* Pension scheme and statutory benefits.
* Career progression opportunities within a growing institution.
