ROLE: Welding & Coating Inspector
PROJECT: NEP
LOCATION: Evanton Spoolbase, Inverness
REPORTS TO: BP Quality Lead
START DATE: April 2026 – July 2026
Key Responsibilities
Welding Inspection
* Perform daily surveillance of welding activities: fit‑up, WPS compliance, heat control, consumables, and parameter verification.
* Verify qualifications of welders, welding operators, and NDE personnel.
* Ensure WPS, PQR, and WQT documentation is implemented correctly.
* Inspect weld preparation, root, fill, and cap passes, and conduct final visual inspections.
* Review weld maps, traceability records, and welding logs for accuracy.
* Monitor storage, handling, and use of welding consumables and equipment calibration.
* Ensure repair procedures follow approved welding standards and monitor repair ratios.
Coating Inspection
* Oversee surface preparation and coating application for IMPP, flame spray PP, and HSS field joints during double joining and tie‑in welding.
* Verify coating systems, consumables, and environmental conditions (dew point, humidity, temperature).
* Conduct inspections as per ITP and confirm contractor compliance with approved procedures.
* Validate coating repairs, patch systems, and QA/QC documentation.
Qualifications
* CSWIP 3.1 / AWS CWI (or equivalent)
* NACE Level 2 / ICorr Level 2 (or equivalent)
Essential Experience
* Minimum 8 years’ experience in welding and coating inspection for subsea pipelines or oil & gas fabrication.
* Strong understanding of NDE methods, documentation systems, and ability to interpret drawings, WPS/PQRs, and coating specs.
Quality Control & Reporting
* Validate contractor QC documentation (inspection reports, test logs, calibration records, NCRs, punch lists).
* Conduct and document oversight checklists in BP PIMS in line with the project SV&O plan.
* Record site observations, raise quality concerns, and escalate issues to Project Quality Lead.
* Contribute to weekly quality reviews and lessons‑learned sessions.
* Provide oversight on materials and welding record traceability.
Documentation & Audits
* Support internal or external audits if required.
* Review contractor reports/documentation for final data books, turnover dossiers, and project close‑out compliance.
Desirable
* Previous experience on BP projects.
* PCN NDT qualifications or equivalent.
* Experience with AUT/PAUT inspection.
