The Production Team Leader is responsible for vehicle production on daily basis to produce high quality vehicles across all models undertaken by Gordon Murray Automotive. Working together with GMAE / GMA teams to capture any concerns during the build and work with the quality and engineering team to ensure corrective actions are documented.



Key Responsibilities

* Develop the manufacturing processes on the prototypes.
* Be a subject expert in the assembly of the vehicle and manage a small team of highly skilled technicians.
* Continuously improve & develop manufacturing processes to effectively utilize equipment and materials to maximize production.
* Become a key member of the team to ramp-up of assembly production at our low-volume, automotive manufacturing operation.
* Work closely with GMAE teams at all levels.
* Support the Production Manager to create production strategies relative to KPI achievement and support translating those strategies into concrete action plans.
* Support Cycle Time planning and line rebalancing, trials and training activities.
* Support new model activities.
* Develop and standardise work instruction for each production process, then maintain a strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures, thereby clearly identifying irregularities that may cause damage or inefficiency and prescribing corrective measures to improve these processes
* Identify unsafe operations / practices and establish safety procedures for employees. Support shop safety initiatives and manage timely implementation of countermeasures to resolve problems.
* Identify waste in assembly processes and implement activities to improve efficiency.
* Be available to work OT, shutdowns and travel as needed.
* Work together with GMA/GMAE Engineering members to continuously improve / develop manufacturing process.
Managerial/Team Leader Responsibilities:
* Establish strong team member relations, at all levels and provide support for people development, coaching and mentoring.
* Lead and coach production team to achieve hourly/daily objectives.
* Ensure alignment of activities to support the production strategies.
* Support introduction of new assembly technologies when applicable.
* Ensure daily process quality and coordinate activities with the team to improve assembly quality.
* Promote problem solving activities within the team.
* Establish strong team member relations, and provide support for people development, coaching and mentoring.
* Set, support and motivate team members to achieve company, departmental and personal objectives via the company PDP process.
* Conduct 1:1 sessions and work on the development of team member.
* Managing the day-to-day activities of the team and delegate workloads fairly.
* Plan and evaluate department activities and delegate as required.
* Responsible for resource of the team/department and work with the internal recruitment team when needed.
* Lead by example.
* Manage conflict, resolve incidents, and solve problems.
* Share and cascade information and communicate goals.



Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

* Relevant automotive experience at an appropriate consultancy or OEM.
* Experience of full product life-cycle activities and ability to achieve Quality, Cost and Delivery targets for production.
* Professional or Supervisory experience in automotive manufacturing with a team.
* Understanding of the different assembly processes and equipment.
* Ability to create plans and schedule own activities.
* Proficiency in cross functional, cross company, and cross-sectional processes.
* Must be a team player who can work closely with GMAE manufacturing engineering team.
* Strong ability to lead problem solving activities within an automotive assembly environment.
* Some computer literacy required – Basics in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
* Organised, persuasive, resourceful, flexible, ambitious, self-directing, passion for delivering objectives, comfortable challenging existing processes.
* Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients, be able to liaise and put point across to others.
