Main duties of the job

Work as an important member of the Multidisciplinary Team within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust providing specialist nursing advice and support to patients and their family, throughout the care pathway.

The post holder will utilise skills of clinical expertise, education, and management to ensure a seamless service for patients, carers, and staff providing advice, support, and information.

You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team in hospital and across the community to ensure a coordinated quality service and will be actively involved in education, audit, and research.

The post holder will engage and lead discussions in multidisciplinary team meetings and ensure a high quality, holistic approach to the management of the patient’s pathway is maintained.

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Registered General Nurse (valid with NMC)
2. Educated to degree Level or demonstrable qualification or significant demonstrable and relevant experience working in an NHS organisation.
3. Evidence of post registration academic development.
4. To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998
5. Evidence of IT experience.
6. Advanced Communication Skills course
7. Additional professional course/qualification relevant to the speciality
8. Edward Jenner Programme Leadership Programme or equivalent

Desirable criteria

9. Fundamentals of Cancer Care module Postgraduate level
10. Independent and supplementary prescribing and or Advanced Physical Assessment skills

Experience

Essential criteria

11. Substantial post registered experience in a managerial role/leadership role.
12. Relevant experience of caring for patients with cancer whether that be at the diagnostic phase, surgery, non-surgical oncology or on-going treatment and care.
13. Evidence of autonomous practice
14. Excellent organisational and time keeping skills.
15. Counselling skills/ Level II
16. Psychology training
17. Experience of audit and research
18. Ability to manage change effectively.
19. Ability to work independently/autonomously and across disciplines as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable criteria

20. External working including GPs and PCT
21. Experience of patient examination and history taking
22. Experience of working in Nurse Led Clinics
23. Experience in health promotion.
24. Knowledge of national agenda on improving cancer services

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

25. Demonstrate knowledge of urological cancer progression and different treatment options
26. Advanced communication/ interpersonal skills both written and verbal
27. Computer literacy and ability to use online platforms, excel, office etc.
28. Knowledge of audit, research, and clinical governance
29. Analytical and judgemental skills
30. Knowledge of the key professional issues and guidelines relating to professional practice
31. Experience of applying research evidence to clinical practice
32. Strong organisational skills with ability to meet deadlines
33. Understanding of equality and diversity and its application to managing self, staff and patients within own area.

Personal Qualities

Essential criteria

34. Highly motivated
35. Excellent time management with an ability to prioritise workload in a complex environment.
36. Methodical and logical approach to working.
37. Flexible and adaptable to working in a constantly changing working environment including the potential of evening and weekend work.
38. Ability to work as part of a team.
