The role

The Forensic Low Secure & Learning Disability Forensic Inpatient service is offering an opportunity for a Band 6 Team Leader (RNLD) at the Tarentfort Centre.

Tarentfort Centre is a 20 bedded specialist Low Secure Unit for the treatment and care of adult males/transgender females (whose risks to others cannot be managed in a female ward), who have confirmed or suspected identities as people with intellectual disability and/or autistic people and who may have additional mental health diagnoses. All people admitted to the Tarentfort Centre must also have been detained under MHA 1983/2007.

The post holder must hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car/vehicle to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the Ward Managers and Matron in the delivery of clinical leadership, practice and achievement of quality priorities within inpatient learning disability and autism services. This is a clinically based role where daily visible leadership is expected. The post holder will ensure the well‑being of patients, staff and visitors is paramount to the ward ethos. They will also support the strategic objectives of the Trust through adherence to all policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborate with private, independent and charitable providers, other disciplines, and patients (and their families or carers where appropriate) to formulate holistic, person‑centred care plans.
  • Take a lead role in ensuring a cohesive multi‑disciplinary approach to meet the health and social care needs of adults with learning disability and autism.
  • Provide education and development of skills and awareness of mental health, psychological and social needs of this group; support a range of professionals/agencies with reasonable adjustments.
  • Advocate for patients with learning disability and autism and demonstrate professional curiosity.
  • Promote a culture of openness, transparency and responsiveness.
  • Provide a strong clinical presence, sound leadership, mental‑health, learning‑disability and autism expertise; actively contribute to direct care by participating in reviews such as CPA and CTRs to facilitate timely discharge.
  • Support the design and implementation of clinical care pathways and intervention menu.

Salary and benefits

High‑cost area allowance (London Weighting) is 5 % of basic salary (subject to minimum £1,346 per year and maximum £2,270 per year – paid monthly).
Salary range: £39,959 to £48,117 per annum (inclusive of high‑cost area supplement).

Training, qualifications and registration

  • Autism train the trainer course.

Experience

  • Post‑registration experience working as a nurse within a Secure Mental Health Service.

Knowledge and skills

  • Good organisational skills and time management.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication.
  • Computer literate.
  • Ability to work in a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Ability to manage staff, including performance, sick absence and probation.
  • Up‑to‑date knowledge of legislation, policy and procedures related to treatment and care of patients.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post requires the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exception Order) 1975; a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service will be necessary to check for any previous convictions.
