Clinical Perfusionist – Band 8B – Salary £64,631 – £74,896 per annum. 37.5 hours per week. Permanent, full‑time.

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and forward‑thinking Clinical Perfusionist to lead the education and training strategy within the Clinical Perfusion Department at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. This senior role combines clinical expertise with strategic leadership, supporting the development of our trainee programme and wider workforce education. You will work closely with the Chief and Deputy Perfusion Managers, the CAS Theatre Manager, CICU, and Bristol University to ensure our training provision remains nationally recognised for excellence and support a caseload of approximately 800 patients annually.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the design, delivery and evaluation of structured training programmes for LR and MSc trainee perfusionists.
* Act as College Tutor, overseeing reaccreditation and ensuring logbooks and protocols reflect best practice.
* Collaborate with Bristol University to support trainee progression and academic engagement.
* Drive departmental CPD strategy, aligning learning opportunities with service needs and SCPS standards.
* Support recruitment and onboarding of trainee perfusionists, fostering a culture of excellence and inclusion.
* Ensure consistency and quality in training delivery across the workforce, working closely with the Deputy and Chief Perfusion Managers.
* Maintain oversight of wet lab provision for routine and emergency procedures.
* Promote Oxford's educational reputation through active participation in national forums.
* Contribute to clinical service delivery across Cardiac Surgery, CICU, Cardiology, ICU, Catheter Lab and A&E.
* Apply expert theoretical and practical skills to support patient care and the development of others.
* Lead the development and continuous review of clinical protocols and documentation.
* Participate in the 24‑hour on‑call cover on a rotational basis.
* Oversee departmental and individual projects with a commitment to research and evidence‑based practice.
* Support the Perfusion and CAT managers in the development and maintenance of training and education.
* Investigate and promote new educational and professional opportunities within and outside the directorate.
* Provide expert resources and advice to junior colleagues, students and medical colleagues.
* Act as an expert resource/advisor to junior colleagues, students and medical colleagues in the delivery of care.
* Employ counseling skills to allow feedback from staff following difficult or traumatic events.
Person Specification
Experience – Essential
* Significant post‑accreditation experience.
Experience – Desirable
* Management qualification.
* Track record of delivering or managing educational programmes within a clinical setting.
