We have an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled, independent, and innovative specialist physiotherapist to enhance access to services for patients diagnosed and being treated for oncology and haematology conditions in the Trust.
We are seeking a positive, proactive clinician with leadership and specialist skills in cancer care to help us build a strong future for therapy within this area.
Main duties of the job
* Identification of patients at diagnosis for a lifestyle assessment focusing on the pillars supporting treatment optimisation.
* Signposting and referral onto exercise, smoking cessation, weight loss and nutrition programmes.
* Supporting Macmillan Cancer Care Navigators by reviewing Holistic Needs Assessments (HNAs) and formulating Care Plans.
* Identifying patients at risk of poorer outcomes (lower 2 IMD quintiles) to achieve better access to all options for treatment.
* Organising and promoting regular health and wellbeing events for all people living with cancer accessing services at James Paget University Hospital and in the community.
* Addressing concerns identified in current HNAs including breathlessness, increasing fatigue and lack of mobility and fitness through specialist physiotherapy input.
* Work in partnership with Patient Participation Groups to ensure a strong co‑production ethos in service delivery and improvement.
* Provide both inpatient and out‑patient assessments and treatment.
* Provide clinical support and advice to other team members.
* Be responsible for non‑clinical duties such as chairing team meetings, in‑service development ideas, training/supervision of students and therapy colleagues, and use of formal appraisal documentation.
* Be actively involved in the measurement and evaluation of your work and current practices through the use of Evidence Based Practice projects, audit and outcome measures.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy (BSc/MSc)
* Current Health and Care Professions Council registration
* Evidence of relevant postgraduate courses/CPD
* Leadership training
* Coaching/supervision training
Knowledge and Experience
* Experience of working with internal and external agencies for patient care and service delivery
* Demonstrates specialist clinical skills within area including complex case management, e.g. manual handling, mental capacity, discharge planning
* Evidence of involvement in service development, e.g. working on projects
* Training and clinical supervision of clinical staff and students and other disciplines including the teaching of specialist skills
* Demonstrates self‑directional learning and the ability to evaluate own performance

* Ability to use own initiative and problem solve
* Ability to act as an autonomous practitioner, organising, prioritising and delegating workload as appropriate
* Good communication skills, including empathy, motivational and assertiveness skills

* Ability to work flexibly across clinical areas and adapt to the needs of the service, particularly when the service is under pressure
