About the Role
We are looking for a skilled and reliable Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Technician to join our Estates & Facilities team at Central Middlesex University Hospital.
In this vital role, you will carry out planned and reactive maintenance, installations, and repairs on a range of building services systems. This is a full-time, Monday to Friday (8am 5pm) position, offering stability, work-life balance, and the opportunity to work in a critical NHS environment.
Key Responsibilities
Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance, repairs, and installation work across hospital facilities.
Assist in refurbishment and capital works projects, ensuring safety and efficiency.
Maintain and repair HVAC systems, piped medical gases, steam equipment, and gas appliances.
Respond quickly to faults and equipment breakdowns.
Conduct Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) and prepare systems for inspections.
Carry out fabrication work using drills, lathes, and welding tools where necessary.
Comply with statutory safety regulations (e.g. BS ) and internal health & safety procedures.
Provide support and technical guidance to apprentices and junior team members.
Participate in the on-call rota (typically 1 in 4/5 weeks, including weekends and bank holidays).
Attend training to maintain required qualifications and develop skills.
Requirements
Level 3 qualification in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
At least 3 years experience in facilities/building services maintenance
Strong understanding of HVAC, gas systems, electrical installations, and plumbing
Comfortable using fabrication tools (e.g., drills, welders, lathes)
Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities
Willing to participate in out-of-hours on-call rota on a scheduled basis
