Requirements & Defect Manager

Warminster based, hybrid working

Be at the forefront of transforming British Army training.

About us:

At OMNIA® Training, we’ve brought together some of the UK’s most innovative defence training organisations under one powerful mission: to transform the British Army’s training system and create the best-trained Army in the world.

OMNIA are redefining the British Army’s collective training. To do that, we are looking for the best and brightest minds from across the UK. We are backed by British innovation and powered by world-class experts, like you. OMNIA is at the heart of the UK’s bold Land Industrial Strategy.

The role:

This is more than a job — it’s a mission. You will be part of a high-impact, collaborative environment, where we expect everyone to live the values and standards of the British Army. Every person in our team plays a critical role in delivering OMNIA’s vision; designing, delivering, and transforming collective training so the British Army is ready to fight and win.

You’ll work in a matrix organisation and report operationally through OMNIA Training and functionally through the Omnia Chief Engineer. Ultimately, you’ll work for the British Army, championing innovation, and helping shape the future of military collective training.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Lead the capture, documentation, and maintenance of training system requirements, ensuring alignment with ITEA (Integration, Test, Evaluation & Acceptance) objectives.

2. Maintain full traceability between operational requirements, training objectives, test cases, and acceptance criteria within the ITEA framework.

3. Support the development and execution of the ITEA Plan, ensuring all requirements are testable, verifiable, and aligned with military training outcomes.

4. Manage requirements change control, assessing impacts across verification, validation, assurance, and capability acceptance.

5. Establish and operate a robust defect tracking and resolution process across all ITEA phases, including simulation environments and training platforms.

6. Link defects to related requirements and test outcomes to support root cause analysis and continuous improvement of training systems.

7. Prioritise and categorise defects based on operational impact, training effectiveness, and programme milestones.

8. Provide regular defect status reporting to stakeholders, including MOD representatives and delivery partners.

9. Collaborate with Engineering Leads, Test Lead, and military SMEs to ensure requirements and defects are fully integrated into verification and validation activities.

10. Maintain the Verification and Validation Requirements Matrix (VVRM) to track coverage, compliance, and readiness for capability deployment.

11. Produce and present metrics and dashboards on requirements coverage, defect trends, and readiness for acceptance into service.

12. Contribute to ITEA reviews, readiness assessments, and governance forums, supporting MOD assurance and audit requirements.

13. Act as a key interface between engineering, testing, assurance, and delivery teams to ensure shared understanding of requirements and defect status.

14. Support user acceptance testing (UAT), operational trials, and field validation by ensuring requirements and defects are accurately reflected in test artefacts and training scenarios.

Who we are looking for:

You’ll have a mission focus, and the enthusiasm and drive to ‘get things done’. You’ll want to work in collaboration with other defence training organisations, and the British Army. You won’t let bureaucracy get in the way of what needs to be done, you’ll learn lessons and share these lessons across the team. You’ll understand what it means to put the mission first.

The successful candidate will be a technically astute Requirements and Defect professional who thrives on engineering excellence to realise enterprise goals. You will be responsible for the acceptance and flow-down of requirements, ensuring that every requirement is identified, allocated and has the integrity of traceability. You will be closely involved in Governance milestones including Architecture and Requirements reviews, working in collaboration with the Chief Engineer and Enterprise Architect in this regard.

Essential Skills and Experience:

15. Requirements Engineering: Strong experience in capturing, analysing, and managing functional and non-functional requirements, including performance, scalability, security, and interoperability.

16. Defect Management: Proven ability to establish and operate defect tracking processes, conduct root cause analysis, and manage defect lifecycle across complex systems.

17. ITEA Expertise: Deep understanding of Integration, Test, Evaluation & Acceptance processes within defence programmes, including support for VVRM and assurance activities.

18. Tool Proficiency:

IBM DOORS: For requirements capture, traceability, and change control.

JIRA: For defect tracking, agile workflows, and sprint planning.

Confluence: For collaborative documentation, test evidence, and stakeholder engagement.

19. Verification of Non-Functional Requirements: Ability to design and support test strategies that validate system performance, reliability, and usability.

20. Stakeholder Engagement: Skilled in working with military SMEs, engineering teams, and assurance bodies to ensure shared understanding and alignment.

21. Governance and Reporting: Experience producing dashboards, metrics, and reports for programme boards, including defect trends and requirements coverage.

22. Change Control: Familiarity with formal change management processes and impact assessment across requirements and defects.

23. Security and Compliance Awareness: Understanding of MOD security classifications, data handling policies, and assurance frameworks (e.g., GovAssure, National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) principles, Secure by Design.)

Desirable Skills and Experience:

24. Degree or equivalent experience in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Assurance, or a related discipline.

25. Professional Certifications in:

Requirements Engineering

ITEA training or certification, or demonstrable experience applying ITEA principles in defence programmes.

26. Security clearance (SC or DV) or eligibility to obtain it.

27. Experience of working in security clamped and controlled environments.

28. Experience working with cloud-hosted environments (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS), including secure configuration, data protection, and compliance with MOD cloud hosting policies.
