Mechanical Design Engineer – Performance Chassis & Suspension
Location: Uxbridge, UK (on-site)
Company: Powerflex
Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum (DOE) + company-wide bonus scheme
About Powerflex
Powerflex are the world leader in high-performance chassis and suspension components for the automotive performance aftermarket and motorsport.
Based at our Uxbridge facility, we design and manufacture products in-house, supplying enthusiasts and motorsport customers worldwide.
We are looking to add a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to our engineering team — someone with proven product design and development experience, strong practical engineering instincts, and a genuine enthusiasm for cars and performance engineering.
The Role
This is an on-site, hands-on mechanical engineering role based at our Uxbridge factory.
You will be responsible for the design, development, and delivery of mechanical components, working closely with manufacturing and testing to bring products from initial concept through to production.
While experience in the performance aftermarket is beneficial, it is not essential. We value strong transferable engineering skills, attitude, and enthusiasm over niche sector experience.
Applicants with strong mechanical design experience from other industries are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Development
* Design and develop mechanical components for automotive chassis and suspension applications
* Create production-ready CAD models, tooling and drawings (we use Autodesk Fusion)
* Own products through the full development cycle:
* Concept and initial design
* Iteration and refinement
* Prototyping and testing
* Release to manufacture
* Apply real-world understanding of vehicles, chassis systems, and component interfaces
* Support hands-on development, fitting, and problem-solving where required
* Incorporate feedback from manufacturing, testing, and real-world use into designs
Manufacturing & CNC Awareness
* Design components suitable for in-house CNC machining
* Understand machining processes, tolerances, tooling constraints, and finishes
* Work closely with machinists to optimise designs for efficient manufacture
Project Management & Organisation
* Manage multiple development projects concurrently
* Use internal tools such as Trello to plan, track, and report project progress
* Maintain clear documentation and ensure designs are released in a controlled and organised manner
* This is a technical, design-led role, with project ownership rather than formal people management.
Skills & Experience
Essential
* Proven experience in mechanical product design and development
* Strong CAD skills (experience with SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, etc. welcomed — Fusion training will be provided where required)
* Practical engineering experience beyond theory
* Good understanding of vehicles, chassis systems, or mechanical assemblies
* Knowledge of CNC machining processes and design-for-manufacture principles
* Ability to manage projects thoroughly and independently
Desirable
* Hands-on motorsport, vehicle maintenance, or workshop experience
* Experience designing low-volume or specialist mechanical components
* Interest in performance cars, motorsport, or automotive engineering
What we're Looking For
* A capable, practical engineer with a track record of delivering real products
* Someone organised, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple projects
* An engineer with the enthusiasm and attitude to work in a fast-moving performance car environment
* The ability to work independently but also to work with and assist other design team members
* Willingness to get involved, learn, and take ownership of designs
Salary & Benefits
* £35,000 – £45,000 per annum, depending on experience
* Company-wide bonus scheme
* On-site role at our Uxbridge factory
* Hands-on involvement in real product development and manufacture
* Short design-to-production cycles
* Training on Autodesk Fusion if required
* The opportunity to work in a technically engaging performance automotive environment
