We have 2 permanent full-time posts and one fixed-term contract post available. We can support a flexible approach to working hours to accommodate the right candidate.

Based at our England South Hub (Leatherhead, Surrey) / hybrid working model.

We have several exciting opportunities for Band 7 or Band 8a Clinical or Counselling Psychologists or BABCP Accredited CBT Therapists to join our team.

We require highly skilled and motivated practitioners to work as part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, providing high-quality, specialist evidence-based treatment to Veterans. The post holders will be innovative, enthusiastic, flexible, and able to work both autonomously and as part of the team.


Main duties of the job

About the role:

Key responsibilities include:

* Delivering CBT on a one-to-one and group basis, including intensive trauma-focused CBT
* Contributing psychological expertise as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Participating in service evaluation, audit, and research
* Contributing to policy and service development

We are particularly interested in applications from those with experience in trauma.

All psychological therapists at Combat Stress are professionally managed with appropriate supervision, peer support, and specialist training.

This role is subject to a DBS check.

Combat Stress is the UK’s leading mental health charity for veterans, helping former service personnel address issues like PTSD, anxiety, and depression for over a century. We provide specialist treatment and support for veterans from all services and conflicts, focusing on those with complex mental health issues related to their military service. Our services include community, outpatient, and residential mental health support, available in-person and online.


Job responsibilities

General Overview of Role:

To work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, delivering services for veterans with PTSD, trauma-related mental health difficulties, and substance misuse problems.

To contribute to residential, outpatient, community, and digital care programs, working flexibly to meet veteran needs.

To provide comprehensive psychological assessments, collaborative formulations, and treatment planning.

To deliver evidence-based CBT, including third-wave interventions, on individual and group basis.

To provide CBT consultation and support to other team members and advice to referrers, external agencies, and carers.

To supervise trainee psychologists/students in CBT.

To contribute to service development, audit, training, and research initiatives as appropriate.

To work closely with senior psychologists and heads of psychological therapies to enhance treatment programs and contribute to clinical governance.

Person Specification


Experience

* Experience in psychological assessment and treatment across various care settings.
* Experience working with diverse adult client groups with mental health issues common among veterans (e.g., trauma, anxiety, depression, substance misuse).
* Significant experience delivering CBT.
* Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience supervising CBT.
* Experience working with UK veterans.
* Experience contributing to teaching and training.
* Experience applying psychological therapies in different cultural contexts.


Qualifications

* Either 1) HCPC registered psychologist with postgraduate doctoral training in counselling or clinical psychology, including models of at least two psychological therapies, including CBT.
* And/Or 2) BABCP accredited CBT Therapist with a relevant health and social care qualification satisfying SSSC requirements (e.g., RMN, Social Worker, OT).
* Additional post-qualification CPD/training relevant to PTSD/trauma work.


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A disclosure check will be required.

Salary: £47,320 per year plus 5% fringe allowance (capped at £2,118 per annum).
