Overview
We are searching for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Junior Design Engineer / Middleweight Design Engineer for a successful Mechanical Design and Engineering business based in North Devon. This role is offered on a hybrid working basis and requires you to live within a commutable distance of Barnstaple, Appledore, Bideford, Ilfracombe, Great Torrington or South Molton. During probation you will be required to work in the office at least 4 days per week, so you should be based near the office or within a 30- to 45-minute commute. The ideal candidate will be a second or third jobber looking to take the next step in their design career, with a minimum of 3 to 4 years of commercial experience.
Your responsibilities include designing specialist packaging solutions used by clients in the Aerospace/Defence sectors to transport and store high-value and critical equipment. You will use CAD software to design bespoke solutions and may work with Creo (Creo 3D / PTC Creo) or other 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD or similar); cross-training to Creo is provided where needed.
This role involves collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders including Project Managers, Production Teams, Sales Managers, and external customers to develop and optimise designs that meet complex requirements.
On a daily basis you will be using CAD software to design bespoke solutions for your customers. Experience in Creo / Creo 3D / PTC Creo is highly desired; however, we are open to candidates with expertise in other 3D CAD software as our client is happy to provide cross-training to help transition to Creo.

Required Skills & Experience
* Experience: Mechanical Design/Engineering role; Mechanical Engineering qualification (Degree, HND, or equivalent) or equivalent commercial experience.
* CAD Expertise: Proficient in 3D CAD software (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD or similar). Experience with Creo is desirable, but cross-training will be provided for the right candidate. Creation of manufacturing drawings from single sheets to large assemblies.
* Technical Skills: Understanding of engineering principles, materials and manufacturing processes; ability to interpret technical requirements and demonstrate compliance through design work.
* Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and address design challenges effectively, ensuring robustness and feasibility of designs.
* Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with clients, suppliers, and team members effectively.
