In SPC, we oversee firms and individuals (supervision), create and review the rules by which they operate (policy) and identify and remedy ineffective competition in markets (competition). Sitting within the Specialist Directorate, the R&I department focuses on all aspects of actual or potential firm failure across FCA-regulated firms, identifying and recommending resolution strategies for failing or at-risk firms and supporting Supervision in their implementation.
Role responsibilities:
* Deliver complex cases to reduce harm to consumers and markets from firm failure, while contributing to departmental goals through internal projects and initiatives
* Engage and influence a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to shape and deliver outcomes that protect and benefit consumers
* Partner with colleagues across the FCA to design and implement effective strategies for resolving failing firms
* Analyse and translate complex issues, including technical and financial matters, into clear, actionable recommendations for non-specialist audiences
* Manage and support team members, fostering their development and contributing to a positive team culture
* Develop colleagues through collaborative case work and projects, delegating effectively to balance multiple priorities and build team capability
* Take ownership of departmental projects and internal workstreams, with support from peers, to help drive continuous improvement and operational success
Skills required:
Minimum:
* Experience of Financial Services regulation: this could be from working at an authorised firm, supervising authorised firms or working as an advisor to authorised firms
* Experience in restructuring and insolvency, as an insolvency professional, lawyer, supervisor or equivalent
Essential:
* Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, including dealing with a range of external parties
* Credible, persuasive communicator, able to communicate views positively and effectively to all levels of staff and stakeholders inside and outside the organisation
* Sound judgement, including being prepared to advance well-reasoned views where limited or inconclusive information is available
* Experience of managing several tasks and priorities at once
* Ability to work with and through others to achieve effective results
* Team-working skills - the nature of the department's work is highly collaborative
* Ability to build a strong network across the organisation and have confidence in working at all levels across the FCA to deliver and provide advice and challenge on a range of matters
