Overview

TRAFFIC is a leading non-governmental organisation working to ensure that global trade in wild species is legal and sustainable. TRAFFIC International focuses on preserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable legal wildlife trade while working against illegal wildlife trade, contributing to conservation efforts through evidence-based research and policy recommendations.


Responsibilities

* Join the Development Team to sustain and grow income from trusts & foundations as well as governments.
* Identify and strategize grant opportunities, turning complex issues into clear, persuasive proposals in collaboration with senior staff across the organisation.
* Initiate, develop, and deepen relationships with a global roster of funders, focusing on six-, seven-, and eight-figure opportunities.
* Lead the delivery of TRAFFIC’s global fundraising strategy, including proposal development and writing, and coordinate efforts within TRAFFIC offices and with external partners.
* Guide thematic leads and Programme Offices to transform project ideas into compelling funding concepts.
* Develop and review funding proposals, including project design, logical frameworks, monitoring and evaluation, and other technical content.
* Collaborate with finance, operations, risk management, research and data, and M&E to ensure input to proposal content and review.
* Enhance fundraising processes and systems (e.g., manage proposal tracking and donor databases such as Raiser’s Edge) in collaboration with the Development Team.
* Review donor calls and requirements to guide approach and content.
* Advise staff in the Global Office and regional offices on grant responses to optimise ROI and align funding with TRAFFIC priorities.
* Represent TRAFFIC in discussions with potential partners and donor meetings; provide support to strengthen bids.
* Design and implement capacity-building programmes on project design and proposal development, aligned with conservation best practices and coordinated with relevant teams.
* Proactively identify and develop relationships with new prospects aligned to TRAFFIC priorities.
* Provide guidance on donor cultivation and engagement strategies.
* Develop generic fundraising materials for donors and the public.


Requirements / Qualifications

* Project design and proposal writing experience across international environmental NGOs; track record of securing six-figure grants from diverse donors (EC, governments, trusts and foundations).
* Strategic, proactive, results-focused with strong organisation and planning skills.
* Excellent verbal and written communication in English; ability to articulate persuasively; knowledge of French, Portuguese, or Spanish is desirable but not required.
* Strong understanding of project design best practices (theory of change, logframes) and related approaches (e.g., Conservation Standards).
* Ability to package complex programmes for diverse supporters; strong biodiversity/conservation or sustainable development knowledge.
* Project management experience; ability to work across time zones and with a distributed, multicultural team.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
* Educated to degree level or equivalent; eligible to live and work in the United Kingdom; willingness to travel internationally.
