Job Description: Job title: Scissor Lifts Engineer Hours: 42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm Location: Peterborough Salary: £44,000 basic pay with a 1 in 4 rotational weekend overtime rate (£50,600.00) Highly skilled and proactive Reactive Engineer to carry out both breakdown repairs (reactive maintenance) and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) on loading bay equipment. This includes dock levellers, scissor lifts, and associated mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. To respond to emergency callouts, diagnose complex faults, complete high‑quality repairs, and deliver routine servicing to keep customer equipment safe, compliant, and fully operational. Key Responsibilities: Attend customer sites to diagnose and repair faults on scissor lifts, dock levellers, and other loading bay equipment. Provide urgent breakdown support, ensuring minimal interruption to customer operations. Carry out detailed mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic fault-finding. Replace worn or damaged parts and complete repairs safely and efficiently. Deliver clear updates to the Operations Centre and customers about job status and resolutions. Execute scheduled PPM visits in line with customer SLAs and asset schedules. Fully inspect and test loading bay systems to identify early signs of wear, unsafe components, or developing faults. Complete lubrication, adjustments, calibrations, and functional checks to manufacturer guidelines. Ensure PPM is completed to a high standard, reducing unplanned downtime and improving equipment reliability. Provide and document recommendations for remedial works, upgrades, or safety improvements following each service. Ensure all work complies with PUWER, LOLER (where applicable), and company safety procedures. Complete accurate and detailed service reports, asset records, and job sheets. Conduct risk assessments and always adhere to site safety rules. Maintain knowledge of industry standards, equipment manuals, and engineering best practices. Deliver professional, friendly, and informative customer service during every site visit. Advise customers on equipment condition, recommended repairs, and safe operation. Collaborate effectively with the Operations and Service teams to support customer needs. To follow Company working policies and practices as directed. To attend customer sites on a regional/national basis. To diagnose chargeable tasks in compliance with company policies and procedures. To comply with company Health and Safety rules and notifying your line manager of any concerns. To ensure that both yourself and your vehicle are presented to company standard. To maintain all vehicle stock, tools and equipment accurately and securely. To carry out any reasonable ad hoc duties as requested. Essential Requirements: High degree of flexibility in working hours and types of jobs undertaken. Excellent communication skills both written and oral. Advanced understanding of Loading Bay Equipment. High degree of mobility – travelling throughout the region, and at times throughout the country, as and where directed. Key performance Indicators: Quality of repairs and maintenance. Quality of documentation and reporting. Speed and efficiency of work. Response to instructions from Operations Centre to meet customer expectations. Flexibility and adaptability to ever-changing job function.
