Work on engineering challenges that don’t have answers yet - and get to invent the tools that make solving them possible. But this isn’t a place for ego-driven ‘eureka’ moments. It’s a place for deep, thoughtful engineers who prove their ideas before pitching them.
Instead of refining existing products, you’ll be building bespoke test equipment from scratch. Some of it’s mad - supersonic jets, precision rigs, thermal systems - all designed and built by you. The team needs people who can filter signal from noise - quickly. You must know when to go deep and when to stay high-level.
It’s a chance to get stuck into serious technical work. From fine tolerances and precision metrology to soldering surface-mount electronics, you’ll be involved in every detail. And it’s not just one discipline - you’ll be mixing mechanical design, electronics, instrumentation, fluid dynamics and thermal systems in a single project.
If you’ve got a better way of doing things, you’ll be trusted to run with it. There’s no red tape or layers of sign-offs - if your reasoning’s solid, you’ll be given the tools and space to make it happen. But the expectation is that engineers form and test their own hypotheses, cross-checking with multiple forms of validation — not just gut instinct or theory. And we've all been there, where you're sat designing a part that you have no idea if it can be manufactured. If you don’t know how a machinist would make your part, you shouldn’t be designing it
And as you develop new solutions to these unique challenges, you’ll naturally grow into an even more influential position. You’ll have the chance to shape how things are done and pass that knowledge on to others as the team scales.
What you’ll do
* Design and build complex test rigs from the ground up, including supersonic airflow (Mach 2), thermal systems and precision instrumentation.
* Set up and calibrate measurement systems like pressure transducers, thermocouples and low-noise amplifiers to get accurate data in extreme environments.
* Design mechanical parts with manufacturing in mind, using tight tolerances (0.1 mm) and working closely with machinists to ensure precision.
* Build and test analogue circuitry, including low-noise systems and data acquisition, and get hands-on with soldering and surface-mount electronics.
* Use CAD (SolidWorks) to drive your designs and take concepts all the way through to physical builds and testing.
What you’ll need
* Strong instrumentation and electronics skills, including low-noise analog and sensor calibration
* Mechanical engineering experience, especially in designing manufacturable parts and working with tight tolerances
* Hands-on skills in assembly, testing, and jig design, plus familiarity with pneumatic systems
