Mechanical Engineering Technician (DUNE)
Join STFC’s Mechanical, Metrology and Technical Engineering Group (MMTE) at the Daresbury Laboratory to support the development of the International DUNE particle physics detector system and other advanced scientific facilities.
Salary & Location
* Salary: £32,773 gross per annum, plus a specialist allowance of up to £5,000 for highly skilled candidates.
* Location: Daresbury Laboratory, Daresbury Science and Innovation Campus, Warrington, WA4 4AD.
* Employment type: Full‑time (daytime shift patterns may be required).

About the Role
You will be part of the MMTE group, working with engineers and scientists on world‑leading scientific facilities including CERN LHC, PiPII, the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) and the in‑house particle accelerator CLARA. Your responsibilities will include mechanical design, fabrication, and assembly of detector components, maintenance of equipment, and support for production and operational activities.
Qualifications and Experience
* A recognised Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent with demonstrable hands‑on experience in a relevant technical engineering role.
* ONC or higher engineering qualification preferred.
* Practical mechanical skills and experience working in a manufacturing or production environment.
* Ability to hand‑solder and perform fine operations to IPC level.
* Experience with workshop machine tools, clean room environments, vacuum technology, cryogenics, and ISO9001 or similar quality systems.
* Knowledge of health and safety, COSHH assessments, and operating overhead cranes is an advantage.
* Strong documentation, communication, and teamwork skills; ability to work independently and perform repetitive tasks with consistent quality.
