The Team
We have an established and well-respected group of lawyers in our Property Liability Team who advise some of the UK's largest insurers and their underwriters on all classes of property damage claims and recoveries. This includes multi-million pound claims for fire, infrastructure damage, flood damage as well as subsidence, under a full suite of property policies to include commercial combined covers, property owners’ risks and Construction All Risks cover. Our policy coverage claims involve advice on non-disclosure and fair presentation of risk and breach of conditions.
The Role
The role of a Paralegal will involve assisting with a caseload of Property & Liability cases. The right candidate will need to be comfortable negotiating settlements on behalf of our client, providing advice and assessing/reviewing damages. Alongside assisting with a caseload, you can gain further exposure to higher value claims by assisting the team with the more complex property damage claims.
For this role the ability to analyse and evaluate information logically, good communication skills and the ability to relate well to clients and staff is important. Attention to detail, good organisational skills and communication skills are a necessity.
Key Responsibilities
* Draft, review, and manage pleadings, witness statements, and disclosure documents in property damage litigation, ensuring compliance with procedural rules and court deadlines.
* Conduct detailed legal and factual research on property insurance law, building regulations, and technical standards relevant to fire, flooding, drainage, geotechnical, and product liability disputes.
* Liaise with clients, insurers, loss adjusters, expert witnesses, and counsel to gather evidence, technical reports, and supporting documentation.
* Analyse and summarise expert reports relating to engineering, geotechnical, hydrology, drainage, fire safety, and product performance issues for use in litigation strategy.
* Manage case files from inception to resolution, including document indexing, evidence collation, and proof bundle preparation.
* Draft correspondence to opposing parties, experts, and courts, and assist with settlement negotiations and mediations.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Previous experience held in a Paralegal/Litigation executive role
* Ideally previous experience held in or knowledge of property or recoveries
* Excellent attention to detail
* Excellent communication skills
* Excellent organisational skills
* The ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently by managing time in a fast-paced environment
* Willingness to learn and develop skills / knowledge
* A professional manner with the ability to build relationships internally and externally
