Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and self‑motivated pharmacy technician to work within our Medicines Information service at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WWL). The post will encompass Medicines Information and Training, collaborating with pharmacy colleagues and clinicians while expanding the Medicines Information service. The successful candidate will be enrolled onto the next UKMi training course if you haven’t already completed this.
Responsibilities
* Manage the training of technicians and pre‑registration trainee technicians, senior assistant technical officers, including clinical supervision of staff.
* Support the training of medicine management roles such as patient medicines reconciliation, patient counselling, ordering of leave medication, accuracy checking of prescriptions, and participate in dispensary duties.
* Supply medicines, relevant advice or information to patients or healthcare staff in a professional manner.
* Assist with providing a high‑quality pharmacy service to Trust patients.
* Undertake general management alongside HR concerns and support the Senior Managers Group to maintain high professional standards within the department.
* Ensure staff understand and implement relevant departmental procedures and that all technical dispensary work is covered by appropriate policies.
* Ensure technicians, senior assistants and trainees involved in training are competent and appropriately supported to provide a high level of service.
* Provide and develop a Medicines Information service to the Trust; mentor and train pre‑registration pharmacy technicians; coordinate ongoing training and education of Medicines Management Technicians.
* Coordinate safe and effective training and education packages in line with best practice and current professional guidance; ensure staff are aware of training opportunities and reaccreditation requirements.
* Contribute to medicines optimisation and discharge duties on wards, including medicines reconciliation, assessment of patients’ own medicines, one‑stop dispensing for discharge, ordering non‑stock medicines, and patient counselling as needed.
* Support the dispensary team with final accuracy checking and assist in day‑to‑day running of the dispensary; ensure compliance with GDP and relevant procedures across the pharmacy.

Qualifications and Requirements
* Qualified pharmacy technician with the ability and motivation to teach and develop others.
* Commitment to training and development of Medicines Information and Medicines Management staff.
* Enrolment on or completion of UKMi training or equivalent relevant training would be preferable.
* Ability to work collaboratively with clinicians and colleagues within a Trust-wide Medicines Information service.
